LBC Drops Two Against Red Devils
Curcio
Bookmark and Share
The Lancaster Bible College baseball team opened its 2010 season with a 'home' game at Dickinson due to poor field conditions at LBC. The two games were polar opposites with the first going extra innings and featuring a pitchers duel, while the second was a Red Devil blowout.

Dickinson's Sean White and the Chargers' Lou Curcio both pitched outstanding in game one, with White and the Red Devils' outlasting LBC 4-1 in eight innings. White pitched a no-hitter, while striking out 17 batters.

"Lou pitched really well for us in game one," Chargers' Head Coach Doug Yager said. "Caleb Erb made two spectacular plays at short to keep us in the game even though we did not have any hits."

Both teams scored in the third inning of game one. LBC's Chad Hollinger drew a walk in the bottom of the third and then scored on a balk by White. The game remained tied until the Red Devils scored three times in the top of the eighth.

Game two played out much differently with Dickinson jumping all over the Chargers early and often. James Santoro's grand slam in the first inning capped off a 10-run inning that all but sealed the Chargers' fate. Dickinson won game two, 16-2.

Three different LBC pitchers took the mound in the first inning, but could do very little to curb the Red Devil offense.

Hollinger began to pitch well at the end of the first inning and into the second, but took a liner off of his shin and had to be taken out after trying to pitch through it. Josh Chamberlin took over and pitched a solid two plus innings.

The Chargers' scored both runs late in the game on a Caleb Erb double.

LBC is back in action on Tuesday when they take on Penn State-Berks. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. Due to the field conditions in Lancaster, the doubleheader will be played in Reading.
