The Lancaster Bible College track and field star
Leah Bergey competed at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend, March 10
th and 11
th. Bergey competed in the high jump field event on Saturday afternoon after qualifying with a personal best 1.68 meters (5'6") this past indoor season. Competing at the highest level in Division III possible, Bergey walked away with a 15
th place finish jumping, 1.56 meters (5'1.25").
Â
A strong showing from Bergey considering the level of competition she participated with. The top of the pool was Jaidyn Appel from Tufts who jumped 1.78 meters (5'10") and second place jumped 1.72 meters (5'7.75").
Â
Bergey will look to use the progress from this past indoor season and the experience gained at the NCAA Division III Championships to propel her into the outdoor season and help her reach new heights. Not only will Bergey look to excel in the high jump but keep an eye out for her time in the 100-meter hurdles and point total in the pentathlon as she was named All-Region by the USTFCCCA in those three areas this past week.
Â
Head Coach Melissa Baughman could not express more how proud of Bergey she was, saying… "We saw a lot of great talent and were reminded what a tremendous honor it was for Leah to make the field of 20 athletes. A top 15 finish nationally is quite an accomplishment!"
