Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Cruise Past SUNY Cobleskill

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team got back to its winning ways on Friday as the Chargers defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 4-0 at Charger Field. The win improves the Chargers to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Junior Josiah Groff opened the scoring for the Chargers at the 8:11 mark as he collected the ball in the box and touched the ball past SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper Steve Seelman. Just about 12 minutes later, freshman Ivan Correa scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year off of a beautiful pass from senior Darrel Goff. Goff found Correa with a through ball that split the defense perfectly and Correa blasted a shot inside the right post to double the Lancaster Bible lead to 2-0.

Less than four minutes later senior Enoc Navarette scored his second goal of the year as he finished a pretty play that began with a corner kick. Groff took the corner and found Nate Grimley in the box who then headed the ball to Navarette who scorched a shot into the right-hand corner of the net.

The score remained 3-0 until freshman David Rizzo scored his second goal of the year as he collected a Arturo Ortega Marcos throw-in and scored past Seelman. The win improves the Chargers to 4-0 all-time against SUNY Cobleskill who fell to 3-10 overall this season and 2-5 in NEAC play.

Andrew Kofstad, Vann Sutphin and Denis Tarasov combined on the shutout, the fourth of the season for the Chargers. For the game, Lancaster Bible outshot the Fighting Tigers, 26-1 and held a 13-0 edge in corner kicks.

Lancaster Bible will host SUNYIT on Saturday as the Chargers will honor their seniors prior to the game. The contest is scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m.
