Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Win Again, Earn Second Seed

Heading into the weekend, the Lancaster Bible men's soccer team faced the daunting task of defeating the second and third place teams in the North Eastern Athletic Conference to secure the second seed in the NEAC Playoffs and earn two weeks of rest. The Chargers completed half of the task on Friday with a 5-1 win at Wells and earned their two weeks of rest with a tremendous 3-1 victory over Keuka on Saturday.

Lancaster Bible will be the number two seed in next month's NEAC Playoffs and will face none other than Keuka in the semifinals. That game will be Saturday, November 8 at Morrisville State as the Mustangs won the regular season title and earned the right to host the NEAC Final Four.

The Chargers wasted little time on Saturday as freshman Edward Bills scored just 1:18 into the game and gave Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, junior Josiah Groff made it 2-0 as he blasted a goal from 16 yards out off a pass from Bills.

The host Wolfpack didn't fold as NCAA Division III leading scorer Austin Gerber netted his 26th goal of the season at the 23:57 mark and cut the Chargers' lead to 2-1. The score remained that way until Ivan Correa scored his 11th goal of the season with 22:12 left and restored Lancaster Bible's two-goal lead.

"I give credit to the whole team today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We played well in all three thirds of the field and I thought our defense especially played well. I thought we had some holes defensively yesterday and to come out and play this well today is a big deal for us."

Ardt thought the team played well and executed its game plan well against Keuka's big gun, Gerber.

"We had a game plan for him and I think it worked pretty well," Ardt said. "He got one opportunity and he took advantage of it and that's why he leads the country in goals. All in all though, I thought we limited his opportunities and played him well."

Lancaster Bible improves to 3-2 all-time against Keuka and will have two weeks off before the teams meet again with much more on the line in the NEAC Semifinals.
