The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team lost its final game of the regular season on Wednesday night as the Chargers fell to Susquehanna, 2-0 in Selinsgrove, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 12-6 overall and they will now embark on the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs, which begin on Saturday.
On Wednesday, the Chargers allowed two early goals and then settled down and played well. Susquehanna's Samantha Zuponcic scored off a rebound just 5:20 into the game to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead and Rachel Moyer doubled that lead 10:15 later as she scored on a shot that found the upper right corner of the net.
After those early goals, Lancaster Bible Head Coach said he was fairly pleased with the Chargers' play.
"Susquehanna is a quality team and this was a great match heading into the playoffs," Craul said. "I thought we played well after those two early goals with some good possession through the middle. I think we need to connect a few more times down the middle and we will be fine. We can take a lot of things with us from tonight into the playoffs."The Crusaders outshot the Chargers, 28-8 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Scheuing, who earlier in the day was named to the NEAC All-Conference Second Team, made eight saves in the loss.
Lancaster Bible will now turn its attention to the NEAC Playoffs as the Chargers will host SUNYIT on Saturday in the NEAC Quarterfinals. The Chargers were 9-3 in NEAC play and the Wildcats had a record of 7-4-1 in conference play. Lancaster Bible defeated SUNYIT, 5-0 on October 18 in Lancaster. Saturday's game is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Charger Field.Â
