Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Poor Shooting Dooms Chargers

The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team dropped its second straight game on Monday night as the Chargers managed just 42 points in a 58-42 loss at Immaculata. The loss drops the Chargers to 1-2 this season and the 42 points scored is the team's lowest output since December 9, 2011 when Lancaster Bible lost to Whitman, 76-28, a span of 86 games.

Monday's game was close throughout the first half as the teams traded buckets over the first 10 minutes of the contest. Junior Aubrey Folger gave Lancaster Bible its one and only lead of the evening when she converted a layup at the 13:09 mark to make it 11-10 Chargers. The problem for Lancaster Bible was the Chargers didn't score another bucket for almost nine minutes as the Mighty Macs went on a 12-0 run and took a 22-11 lead.

Over the nine minute drought, the Chargers were 0-for-10 from the floor and turned the ball over three times. Despite the long stretch of no points, the Chargers ended the half on a 11-6 run and trailed just 28-22 at the break. Folger had half of Lancaster Bible's 22 points in the first half in 17 minutes of play.

Lancaster Bible kept the game close in the early parts of the second half as they cut the deficit to four on two separate occasions, the last of which came with 10:50 to play as Kirsten Webster knocked down a jumper to cut Immaculata's lead to 38-34.

Once again though, the Mighty Macs took the game over and used a 12-2 run over the next six minutes to open a 50-36 lead they would not relinquish.

"We are struggling to become a cohesive unit right now," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Rachel Steinbarger said. "It's still early and we need to keep working to become one unit on the floor."

Steinbarger indicated she thought the problem on Monday night was on the defensive end just as much as the offensive end.

"I didn't think we picked the ball up very well defensively," Steinbarger said. "Obviously we need to shoot better on the offensive end as well."

Folger finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her third double-double in three games this season, while Shanice Smith had 10 points and 10 boards for her third double-double of the season as well. Junior Katy Stover finished with seven points, five rebounds and three assists, while Kirsten Webster had a career-high eight points to go with her three assists.

The Chargers are off the rest of the week for Thanksgiving and do not return to action until Wednesday, December 3 when they host Penn St. Berks at 5 p.m. The game will be the first North Eastern Athletic Conference contest of the season for Lancaster Bible.

Notes:
-Despite being just over a hour away from one another, Monday was the first-ever meeting between Lancaster Bible and Immaculata in women's basketball action.

-The double-double was the 34th of Folger's career and her sixth straight dating back to last season.
