Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Clip Eagles

The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team won its sixth straight game on Wednesday as the Chargers defeated St. Elizabeth, 67-52 in Morristown, N.J. It was the second time this season the Chargers have defeated the Eagles as Lancaster Bible handled St. Elizabeth, 61-54 on January 13 in Lancaster.

On Wednesday, Lancaster Bible junior Katy Stover led all scorers with 21 points as she was 7-of-11 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Wednesday marked the sixth time this season Stover has scored 20 or more points in a game as she leads the Chargers with 18.7 points per game.

The Chargers led by just six, 30-24, at halftime, but turned up the heat defensively in the second half and forced St. Elizabeth into bad shots and several turnovers and Lancaster Bible swung the game in its favor.

"I didn't think we played very well in the first half and probably should've been ahead by a few more points than we were," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Rachel Steinbarger said. "Give the girls credit though, we got multiple stops early in the second half and turned that into points on the other end and really took control of the game. I was happy with the way the team responded after halftime."

The Chargers shot 12-of-23 (52.2 percent) from the field in the second half and opened up a 19-point lead five minutes into the second frame as they began the half on a 15-2 run. Junior Aubrey Folger finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for her 11th double-double of the season and Folger also added four steals and two blocks.

Kirsten Webster continued her strong play as she poured in 12 points and dished out seven assists, while Shanice Smith had eight points and nine boards in limited action due to a small injury sustained during the game. In her absence, freshman Molly Arnold stepped in and played nine tough minutes as she hung tough on the defensive end and added a bucket on the offensive end.

"Molly played some great minutes for us tonight," Steinbarger said. "We needed those minutes from her tonight with Shy down for a little bit and she was big for us."

Lancaster Bible improves to 11-3 overall and 9-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play and coupled with Penn St. Abington's loss at Gallaudet on Wednesday, the Chargers now have a half-game lead for first place in the NEAC South Division. The Chargers will face Wilson and Gallaudet this weekend on Friday and Saturday respectively before a showdown with Abington looms on Tuesday, February 3 at Horst Athletic Center.

Friday's game at Wilson is scheduled to tip-off at 5 p.m., while Saturday's game at Gallaudet is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
