The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team saw its 2015 season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Chargers dropped a 3-0 decision to Houghton in the NCCAA Division I Midwest Semifinals in Houghton, N.Y. The Chargers conclude the 2015 campaign with a record of 10-11-1 as Lancaster Bible advanced to the North Eastern Athletic Conference Semifinals for the first time since 2013, as well as the NCCAA Div. I Region Semifinals for the second straight season.
How it Happened: Houghton controlled play from the opening whistle, though the Lancaster Bible defense did everything it could to keep the Highlanders at bay. Houghton cracked the Chargers' defense at the 9:31 mark as Jessica Beattie headed in a deflected ball and gave the Highlanders the early lead. Sarah Gabriele doubled Houghton's lead 4:32 later as she took a pass from Darlene Eckhardt and slid the ball past Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Scheuing.
From that point, Houghton continued to control possession of the ball, but the Chargers' defense buckled down and played superbly, led by Scheuing who made several key saves to keep the game, 2-0. It wasn't until the 77:22 mark that Houghton put the game away as Meagan Berry scored her first goal of the season to give the Highlanders a 3-0 advantage.

The Coach Says: "As I told the girls, it's always great to be playing in the middle of November," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Leah Sipe said. "I think the various adversities we had to overcome throughout the season and still be able to host a conference playoff game, make it to the NEAC semifinals and play in the NCCAA playoffs is a testimony to how much the girls bought into the process this season. Just because the season is over does not mean the process stops. We lost a couple of great seniors who gave everything they had to the program, but we get the core of our team back and I am excited to see what is possible for this team."
