It was a tale of two very different games for Lancaster Bible and St. Elizabeth on Wednesday, but in both games the tale finished with the Chargers on the losing end as St. Elizabeth swept a doubleheader from Lancaster Bible in Lancaster, Pa. The Eagles won a pitcher's duel, 3-0 in game one and took the offensive showcase in game two, 19-8. The losses drop the Chargers to 3-9 overall and 1-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Eagles are now 4-8 overall and 2-2 in NEAC play. A recap of each game is below.
Lancaster Bible was scheduled to play Penn St. Abington on Friday in Lancaster, but the impending rain has moved those games to Monday as the Chargers will host the Nittany Lions for a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
St. Elizabeth 3, Lancaster Bible 0The Eagles had just five hits, but they were timely, as St. Elizabeth took advantage of three Lancaster Bible errors and got a terrific pitching performance from freshman Alexandria Garcia to win game one, 3-0. St. Elizabeth scored its first run in the top of the fourth as two Lancaster Bible errors led to the run that would stand up to be the game winner. The Eagles scored a run in the fifth and sixth inning as well to spoil a tremendous pitching performance from Lancaster Bible's
Kelsey Collins. Collins scattered five hits over seven innings and struck out 12, but took her third loss of the season.Â
Seven different players had a hit for the Chargers, but Lancaster Bible left nine runners on base in game one and could not convert any of their chances. Both
Emily Coffman and
Kristen Hartline were on base twice in game one as they were each 1-for-2 with a walk.
St. Elizabeth 19, Lancaster Bible 8 -- (6 innings)The bats woke up for game two as the teams combined for 27 runs and 29 hits in just six innings, but the Eagles once again pounced on Lancaster Bible errors and cruised to a 19-8 victory. St. Elizabeth scored six times in the first inning as the Eagles batted around, but the persistent Chargers worked their way back into the game and were rewarded in the third inning as they scored four times to tie the game at 7-7.
Kellie Wallace,
Julia D'Arrigo and Hartline each had RBI singles in the third in which the Chargers smashed five singles.Â
The game remained tied until the fifth when the Eagles scored three times thanks in large part to three Lancaster Bible errors as the wheels began to fall off for the Chargers. After the Eagles took the lead in the fifth inning, they put game one starter, Garcia, back on the mound and she got the Chargers to go down in order in the bottom of the fifth.
St. Elizabeth put the game away in the sixth as they scored nine runs on eight hits and sent 13 batters to the plate.
D'Arrigo went 3-for-4 in game two, while
Ali Morton,
Courtney Koser and
Kellie Wright each had two hits apiece. Koser and
Kellie Wallace each knocked in two runs, while Hartline and Morton scored two runs.Â
