Chargers Handle Phoenix

The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team won its fifth straight game on Friday night as the Chargers beat Wilson, 89-50 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference South Division matchup. The victory brings Lancaster Bible's record to 12-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play. The Phoenix are now 2-13 overall and 0-12 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Both teams began the game well offensively as Lancaster Bible grabbed an 8-5 lead after two made free throws by Aubrey Folger with 7:58 remaining in the first quarter. The free throws began a 14-3 run for the Chargers as Kirsten Webster hit a free throw with 3:10 left in the first quarter. A layup from Wilson's Amber Jones followed by two free throws from Aubrey Folger would give the Chargers the 27-12 lead after the first quarter

The Chargers would build a 36-14 lead with a successful fast-break layup from Krissy Pennell. The Chargers would go on to hold a lead over twenty points and go into the half with a 48-22 lead.

Lancaster Bible poured it on in the third quarter as the Chargers opened the quarter on a 10-4 run capped by a layup from Shanice Smith that gave the Chargers a 58-26 lead. The Phoenix knocked down a 3-pointer on their next possession, but the Chargers' offense took off again and would progress by a thirty-two point lead with a good jumper from Folger. The Chargers took a demanding lead after the third quarter with the score being 81-43 going into the fourth quarter. 

Though the offensive quieted down a bit in the fourth quarter. They built their biggest lead of the game, 87-45 with a layup from Alyssa Bowen. The Chargers would continue to play the possession game until the games final buzzer, where they won with a final of 89-50.

By the Numbers: All Chargers saw 10 minutes or more...Senior Aubrey Folger had a game-high 27 points and 15 rebounds on 10-of-19 shooting...Katy Stover finished with 20 points, while Senior Shanice Smith added 15 points and 8 rebounds...Sophomore Alyssa Bowen had eight points and eleven rebounds...Marisa Jo Abts added six points and Krissy Pennell had six points and eleven assists...Jordyn Day led the Phoenix with 17 points.

The Coach Says: "I thought we came out and played well tonight. I was really happy with how we played defense and I felt like our press was effective. Alyssa had a great game and we are starting to see a lot of improvement from our bench," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Katelyn Vanderhoff said.
