Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Late Rally Sends Chargers to NEAC Final

The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team scored three times in the second half, including twice in the final five minutes, to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and defeat SUNY Polytechnic, 3-1 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Semifinals. The victory moves the Chargers into the NEAC Final for the first time since 2012 and improves Lancaster Bible to 15-5 this season.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible controlled much of the play in the first half, though SUNY Polytechnic managed more shots in the first half on Saturday than they did in the September 23 meeting between the two teams. The Wildcats' last shot of the first half was a good one as Nakeya Stedman scored on a breakaway goal at 40:48 to give SUNY Poly a 1-0 lead.

The SUNY Poly goal spurned the Chargers on even more after halftime as the Chargers took the game over. Lancaster Bible had three shots and four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half as the Chargers pressed for the equalizer. The Chargers were finally rewarded at 63:08 as freshman Barb Foster collected a loose ball, dribbled it into the box and scored into the right-hand corner.

The teams battled back and forth for the next 20 minutes as Lancaster Bible continued to control the play, but SUNY Poly remained dangerous to add another goal as well. With under five minutes to play and the game seemingly headed for overtime, junior Raegan Horst crossed the ball into the box and found freshman Hannah Bernstein who put the ball into the back of the net to give the Chargers a 2-1 lead with 4:02 left to play.

Bernstein wasn't finished. as she took a feed from junior Rachel Kumher 1:05 later and drilled a shot into the upper right-hand corner to give Lancaster Bible a two-goal advantage. The Chargers ran off the final 2:57 of the contest and advanced to the NEAC Final for the third time in program history.
