The Lancaster Bible men's volleyball team played four times in the span of just over 24 hours the past two days and went 1-3 in those matches, two of which were North Eastern Athletic Conference contests. Recaps from each match are below as Lancaster Bible's record stands at 7-16 overall and 2-8 in North Eastern Athletic Conference matches.
No. 4 Stevens Institute of Technology 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-4, 25-8, 25-12Lancaster Bible ran into the buzz-saw that is Stevens, the fourth-ranked team in the latest AVCA Div. III Men's Volleyball Top 15 Poll, and lost 3-0 in a neutral site match at Marymount University in Arlington, Va.
Kasey Gentry had a team-high six kills against Stevens, while
Derek Bigley added three kills and five digs. Freshman
Garyd Martin had 12 assists and Nick Wesley added three digs.
Marymount 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-16, 25-22, 25-14The Chargers dropped the first set, 25-16, but matched Marymount point-for-point in the second set and trailed just 23-22 after a kill from Gentry late in the set. Two consecutive kills from Marymount's Graham Clark and Tomasz Ksiazkiewicz won the set for the Saints and the hosts cruised to a 25-14 third set win to secure the match.
Gentry led the Chargers with nine kills, while Bigley had eight. Freshman
Joshua Rotz chipped in with a team-high 11 digs, while Gentry and Bigley each added nine. Sophomore
Sky Woelkers had both of the team's aces and Martin had 20 assists.Â
Penn St. Altoona 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-15, 25-18, 25-20The Chargers lost to the Nittany Lions for the third time this season as Penn St. Altoona took an early lead in each of the sets and swept Lancaster Bible. Gentry had a match-high 14 kills in the loss and added eight digs. Woelkers added four kills, while Wesley had eight digs.
Nick Eberly chipped in with two kills and an ace and
Caleb Strite had two blocks.
Lancaster Bible 3, Wilson 0
25-23, 25-18, 29-27All three sets were close, but the Chargers were able to pull each of the three out in the end and snapped a six-match losing streak in the process. After a somewhat sloppy first set from each team, Lancaster Bible took control of the match in the second set as the Chargers smashed 16 kills in the second frame en route to a 25-18 win. The third set appeared to be going to the Chargers easily as they led 24-18, but Wilson rattled off six straight points to tie the set at 24-24. With the set tied at 27-27, Lancaster Bible used a service error from Wilson and a kill from Gentry to ice the match and win, 29-27.
Gentry had a match-high 19 kills, his eighth match this season with double-digit kills. He also added a team-high 15 digs, while Eberly had four kills and 10 digs. Bigley also had double-digit kills with 12 and Woelkers had six kills. Martin had a career-high 40 assists for the Chargers. Aaron Hoke had 11 kills and 17 digs for the Phoenix.
Lancaster Bible returns to the court next weekend when they will face SUNY Polytechnic on Friday, followed by matches with Keuka and Wells on Saturday. All three matches will be played at Penn St. Altoona as part of a NEAC Crossover Weekend.
