Playing two days in a row had no ill effect on the Chargers as they scored the most runs ever in program history during the first game as the Chargers demolished Cairn, 35-1 in game one and took game two 23-2. Saturday's wins improve the Chargers record to 6-6 on the season, which is the best start through 12 games in program history.
Game 1: The Chargers scored all of their runs in the first three innings and jump started the offense with an 11 run first inning. After
Julia D'Arrigo and
Zoie Senn walked, a Cairn error on a hard hit ball by
Courtney Koser scored but the run which were the first two in the inning for the Chargers. After walks to
Ali Morton,
Kelsey Collins, and
Samantha Denson,
Morgan Burkholder came up to bat and smacked a double to score Morton and Collins. After more walks and four more runs scored, Senn stepped up to the plate and knocked in Koser and Morton to give the Chargers an 11-0 lead after the first inning.
The Chargers erupted for 20 runs in the second inning. All players for Lancaster Bible came to bat at least once in the inning as there was eight singles in the inning, three doubles, one triple, and one homerun. The Chargers were very methodical moving base to base and taking what Cairn was giving them. The highlight of the inning was D'Arrigo's three run homerun that gave the Chargers as 29-0 lead. The Chargers would go on to score two more run before the inning came to a close. Throughout the inning the Chargers had RBIs from Morton, Collins, Burkholder,
Alicia Ort,
Richelle Kane, D'Arrigo, Koser, and
Ashli Schmidt.
Lancaster Bible would go onto score four more runs in the third inning, with Koser hitting a double to give the Chargers 35 runs. Collins was great in the circle as she allowed one hit and struck out four to improve her record to 3-3 for the season.
McKayla Smucker was effective in relief as she allowed one run on one hit, while striking out two.
By the Numbers: D'Arrigo finished 2-for-3 with five runs scored and three RBI, while Koser was 4-for-6 with four runs scored and seven RBI...Burkholder was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBI...Kane and Collins each had two hits a piece...Everyone that stepped to the plate for the Chargers had at least on hit...The Chargers were able to draw a tremendous 18 walks in the five innings.
Game 2: The Chargers bats stayed hot as the temperature dropped. They scored all of their runs in three innings again but this time in the second, third, and fourth innings. Cairn held the Chargers in the first but they got it going in the second with Schmidt hitting a single to score Kane and Denson. The Chargers would go on to score eight more runs that inning with hits from Ort, Denson, and Burkholder. The Chargers would go on to score five in the third with the highlight being a leadoff home run from D'Arrigo. The Chargers did not stop their as they scored eight more in the fourth, with help from Collins as she hit her first home run of the year.
D'Arrigo pitched well in the second game as she allowed no hits and struck out four in three innings to even her record at 3-3 for the season.
By the Numbers: Collins, Burkholder, and Kane were each 3-for-4 in game two. Kane had five RBI in game two thanks to a double and triple.
