The Lancaster Bible women's softball team was looking to snap a five game losing streak as they faced off against Wilson College on a beautiful Friday afternoon. The Phoenix would go on to take a high scoring affair in the first game, but the Chargers would take game two with hot bats and strong pitching. The Chargers move to 11-14 overall and 2-6 in conference, while Wilson moves to 10-10 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
Game 1
Wilson 16, Lancaster Bible 12
How it Happened: Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning. However, Wilson got on the board first as Kayla Sullenberger led off the inning with a solo homerun over the left field fence. That is all the Chargers would allow for the inning as
Kelsey Collins found her groove, and was able to get all her outs via the strikeout. The Chargers were able to load the bases with two outs in the bottom of the third with
Morgan Burkholder coming to bat. Burkholder was able to work a walk, and put the Chargers on the board to even the score at one. Samantha  Denson was next to bat for the Chargers as she smoked a single to right field and after an error on the right fielder all on base runners were able to score as well as Denson. The Chargers took a four run lead into the top of the fourth.Â
Collins continued to pitch well for the Chargers as she held the Phoenix off the scoreboard.
Richelle Kane was able to get on bases for the Chargers in the bottom of the inning off a beautiful bunt that just died right between the first baseman and catcher. However, the Chargers were unable to convert it into a run. The Phoenix were able to load the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth inning. Taylor Crouse was able to hit a deep fly ball single for the Phoenix, but they continued to pour on the runs and tie the game at five going into the bottom half of the fifth inning.
The Chargers were able to get back to back hits from Burkholder, Denson, and
Alicia Ort, but were not able to convert them into runs as the two early outs in the inning hurt the Chargers. The Phoenix made the most of their opportunities in the top of the sixth inning as Crouse was able to hit a double to score one and put the Phoenix up by one. The Phoneix would continue to tack on the runs as back to back to back doubles by Sullenberger, Knable, and Patton would give the Phoenix a five run lead. The Chargers were able to plate four in the inning thanks to a couple errors by the Phoenix, and key hits by Burkholder and Ort to pull the Chargers within one. The Phoenix would score six more in the top of the inning to take a seven run lead. The Chargers would go on to score three in the bottom of the inning, but the Phoenix would take game one by the final of, 16-12.
Inside the Box Score: Burkholder finished 2-for-4 with three RBI's...Koser, Senn, Ort, and Denson all had two hits a piece for the Chargers...Collins suffered here seventh loss of the season...The Phoenix were led by Kayla Sullenberger who had four hits and five RBI's.
Game 2

How it Happened: The Chargers got off to a fast start in the second game as
Julia D'Arrigo,
Zoie Senn, and
Courtney Koser all started with singles to give the Chargers a run. They were not satisfied with just one as
Morgan Burkholder continued swinging the bat well and picked up an RBI on her single to give the Chargers a two run lead. The Chargers were able to load the bases with Koser coming to bat. Koser was able to single to left field to plate a run, but after a wild pitch by the Phoenix the Chargers were able to plate another run. The Chargers were able to add one more to their lead with Collins laying down a sacrifice bunt to plate Senn and give the Chargers a five run lead.Â
The Chargers bats continued to stay strong as they would go on to score four runs in the bottom of the third. Five different Chargers had hits in the inning as Morton had a triple, while Ort, Kane, Senn, and Koser each had singles. Three Chargers had RBI's in the inning as they would take a nine run lead. The Chargers continued to pour it on as they would go on to score six more runs with Denson, Kane, Koser, and Burkholder picking up key hits for the Chargers.Â
Inside the Box Score: Koser finished 4-for-4 with four RBI's and three runs scored...D'Arrigo, Senn, Burkholder, and Kane all had two hits for the Chargers...D'Arrigo was stellar on the mound this evening as she allowed three hits and one run through five innings to pick up her fifth win of the season...Jenna Knable led the Phoenix with two hits.
Extra Bases: The Chargers are now 4-25 against Wilson all-time...The Chargers will face Wilson two more times this season at Wilson on April 29th.
