The Lancaster Bible softball team wrapped up its 2016 season on Sunday in the nation's capital as the Chargers split a doubleheader with Gallaudet. The Chargers dropped game one, 3-1 and ended the season with an 11-8 win in game two. Lancaster Bible finishes the 2016 campaign with an overall record of 15-22 and was 6-14 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Chargers, who battled injuries all season long, especially in the final weeks of the season, were a team united until the end. Despite the fact their doubleheader was cancelled on Thursday that was to benefit Pediatric Cancer, the Chargers wore their black and yellow jerseys on Sunday afternoon with yellow socks and raised $500 for the Go4theGoal Foundation in the process.
Game 1
Gallaudet 3, Lancaster Bible 1
How it Happened: The Chargers managed just two hits in game one, but actually took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as a
Zoie Senn groundout helped
Richelle Kane give the visitors an early lead. Gallaudet grabbed the lead an inning later in the fourth as back-to-back errors on the same play haunted the Chargers and Gallaudet took a 2-1 advantage. The Bison added an insurance run in the sixth to earn their first victory over the Chargers this season as Lancaster Bible had swept a doubleheader from Gallaudet earlier this season in Lancaster.
Inside the Box Score: Julia D'Arrigo and
Courtney Koser had the lone hits for Lancaster Bible...Kane was 0-for-1 with two walks and scored the aforementioned lone run for the Chargers...D'Arrigo took the loss as she scattered seven hits and allowed just one earned run, while striking out one.
Game 2
Lancaster Bible 11, Gallaudet 8
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible had its largest offensive output in almost two weeks as the Chargers erupted for 17 hits and 11 runs in game two. Koser opened the scoring for the Chargers in the top of the first as she crushed a home run to dead center field and gave Lancaster Bible a 1-0 lead. Gallaudet answered with two runs in their half of the first, but Lancaster Bible evened the score in the second on an RBI single from Kane that scored
Ashli Schmidt.Â
A two-run single from Koser in the fourth that scored D'Arrigo and Kane gave the visitors a 4-2 lead and a
Zoie Senn RBI double an inning later gave Lancaster Bible a 5-2 advantage. Gallaudet cut its deficit to 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth, but the Chargers answered in the sixth as they pushed across four more runs to take a 9-4 lead.
In the sixth,
McKayla Smucker smacked a two-run single, while Kane and Senn added RBI singles as well. The Bison scored twice in their half of the sixth, but RBIs from
Ali Morton and
Alicia Ort in the top half of the seventh sealed the deal and the Chargers held on for the three-run victory.

Extra Bases: Lancaster Bible took three of four games from Gallaudet this season...D'Arrigo finished the season with 51 hits, the first player in Lancaster Bible softball history to have over 50 hits in a season...D'Arrigo's 48 runs scored are also a program-record as she crushed the old record of 27 which she also owned from last season...Koser hit .417 this season, just four points behind her program-record of .421 which she accomplished last season...D'Arrigo's 17 doubles this season are also a new program record...D'Arrigo and Koser also broke the record for most runs batted in during a season as the old record of 28, which Koser owned from last season, was surpassed by Koser's 33 and D'Arrigo's 36 this season.
