The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team dominated the stat sheet on Sunday against Morrisville State, but the Mustangs won the only category that counts, en route to a 4-2 victory over the Chargers at Charger Field on Sunday. Lancaster Bible is now 5-9-2 overall this season and 4-3-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Mustangs improved to 6-8-1 overall and 6-2-1 in conference action.
How it Happened: The Mustangs got on the board first on Sunday, as Kelly Brennan scored from the top of the box at 25:25 to give the Mustangs a 1-0 advantage. Lancaster Bible outshot Morrisville State, 11-1 in the opening 45 minutes, but had to wait until the 10th shot to get the equalizer, as junior
Kiersten Hatch scored her fifth goal of the season off a feed from senior
Rachel Kumher. Hatch's goal, at 42:08, came after she collected the ball in the box and put it past Mustangs' goalkeeper Brianna Sorriento.
The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead just four minutes into the second half when Jessica Adam was able to get a piece of a deflected shot off the foot of Brennan, and send it into the right side of the goal. Morrisville State scored 5:55 later to make it 3-1, as Brennan pounced on a rebound off a free kick and fired the ball into an open net.
Freshman
Karissa Akselsen got the Chargers back within one at 58:39 as she got to a loose ball and drilled a shot into the upper left-hand corner of the net for her second goal of the year.Â
Before Lancaster Bible could even begin to think about the equalizer, Brennan completed her hat trick at 65:06 to restore the Mustangs two-goal advantage. Brennan turned at the top of the box and her shot somehow found the back of the net for her eighth goal of the year.
The Chargers pressed to get back into the game, but chance after chance fizzled out and Morrisville State kept its two-goal lead.
