Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Penalty Kicked

There's not much more a team can do to dominate a game then what the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team did on Tuesday afternoon at Charger Field, and yet, sometimes, things just don't your way. The Chargers fired 33 shots and held over 90 percent of the game's possession, but couldn't find the back of the net in regulation or overtime and ended up losing to Bryn Athyn on penalty kicks in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinals.

Lancaster Bible's season ends at 7-9-3 overall after falling 3-2 in the penalty kick shootout. The Lions move on to the NEAC Semifinals and are now 9-6-1 this season.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible dominated the opening 45 minutes, as the Chargers outshot Bryn Athyn, 9-1 and held a 7-0 edge in corner kicks. The Chargers held almost all of the possession, but too many of their shots were from outside the box and Bryn Athyn goalkeeper Allie Warren easily made four saves.

The second half featured much more of the same, though Bryn Athyn did manage three shots in the second frame. Lancaster Bible put 17 shots towards the goal, five of which went on goal. The Chargers had seven more corner kicks, but again, Warren disrupted or caught all of the crossing opportunities.

The Chargers had the only four shots of the first overtime, but came up empty again, and then in the second overtime, senior Raegan Horst hit the crossbar with 4:51 remaining. In the two combined overtimes, Lancaster Bible held a 7-0 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corner kicks, yet couldn't find the winner and the game headed to penalty kicks.

Bryn Athyn took a 1-0 lead after the first round of shooters in the penalty kick round, but Lancaster Bible tied it after round two, as Horst scored on her attempt after Bryn Athyn's leading scorer Shelby Puccio hit the right post with her attempt.

The Chargers took a 2-1 lead after the third round as sophomore goalkeeper Rheeana Miles made a save on Shauna Breen's attempt and fellow sophomore Kate Spiezio scored on her try for the Chargers. It went downhill from there however, as the Bryn Athyn scored in round four and Lancaster Bible's Joy Trumbull had her attempt blocked by Warren.

In the fifth and final round, Bryn Athyn's Gianna Ciacciarelli converted her attempt to give the Lions a 3-2 lead and Lancaster Bible freshman Sam Koons had her try blocked by Warren to send the Lions to the NEAC Semifinals.
