The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team lost to a strong DeSales team, 79-40 on Sunday in the Championship Game of the Morgan Stanley (Easton Office) Tip-Off Tournament, as the tournament host Bulldogs built an early lead and then pulled away in the third quarter for the big victory. The Chargers are now 1-2 this season, while the Bulldogs improved to 3-0.Â
First Half Highlights:
-The first quarter was low-scoring, as freshman Leah Steiner's layup with 3:08 remaining cut the Chargers' deficit to two at 8-6
-DeSales outscored the Chargers 10-2 over the rest of the quarter however and took an 18-8 lead after 10 minutes of play
-Back-to-back baskets from senior Kirsten Webster and sophomore Caitlin Hickey helped Lancaster Bible trim DeSales' lead to 21-14, but a 14-3 run by the Bulldogs followed the baskets and the Chargers eventually trailed 36-20 at halftime
Second Half Highlights:
-DeSales used an 11-0 run in the first 1:40 of the third quarter to take a 27-point lead, 47-20Â
-The Chargers battled, but DeSales continued to run away and led 66-28 after three quarters
-Lancaster Bible put together an 8-2 run midway through the fourth quarter, as junior Courtney Goyak had four points during the scoring run
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible was just 12-of-41 (29.3 percent) from the field, though the Chargers were 14-of-17 (82.4 percent) from the free throw line...DeSales was 35-of-74 (47.3 percent) from the floor, as the Bulldogs took 33 more shots than the Chargers...Lancaster Bible held a 39-31 edge in rebounds...Hickey led the Chargers with 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting, while Webster had 11 points...Goyak had seven points and pulled down 18 rebounds...Steiner added four points and three boards...The Chargers committed a season-high 41 turnovers.

Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "They put a ton of pressure on us and we weren't able to handle it. I'm disappointed in our execution of the game plan and we have to be better going forward. We will look to regroup and come back ready for our first conference game."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-4 all-time against DeSales...This was the first meeting between the two teams since the 1977-78 season when DeSales was then known as Allentown College...The 41 turnovers are the most in a single game over the past 9+ seasons...Goyak has double-digit rebounds in all 32 of her collegiate games at Lancaster Bible...Webster was named to the All-Tournament Team for her strong play over the two games in Center Valley, Pa.
