The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team ended the first semester with a victory on Monday night, defeating Hood, 74-55 in Frederick, Md. Seven different players recorded a bucket for the Chargers, who improved to 6-5 overall this season, while the Blazers fell to 3-5.
1st Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible opened the game with a 7-2 lead over the first four minutes, as senior Kirsten Webster, sophomore Caitlin HIckey and junior Courtney Goyak each had a bucket to get the Chargers started on the right foot
-Hood closed the gap to 9-8 with 3:41 to play, but Lancaster Bible went on a 9-2 run to end the quarter and grabbed an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes of play
-Hickey had 10 points in the opening quarter to pace the Chargers
2nd Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible kept building its lead in the early parts of the second quarter, as a 13-2 run over the first five minutes of the quarter gave the Chargers a 31-12 advantage
-Over a nine-minute span from late in the first quarter to midway through the second quarter, Lancaster Bible outscored Hood, 22-4
-The Chargers maintained their lead through the second quarter and led, 42-25 after 20 minutes of play
3rd Quarter Highlights:
-Hood outscored the Chargers, 17-14 in the quarter, but Lancaster Bible was able to fend off each Hood attempt to close the gap, and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the quarter
4th Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible put the game away in the early parts of the fourth quarter, as the Chargers opened the quarter with a 7-2 run and took a 63-45 lead with 7:57 to play on a layup from Goyak
-A late 3-pointer from sophomore Kaylee Boger, her third of the game, capped the scoring with just over a minute to go, as the Chargers won by 19
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 29-of-64 (45.3 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-18 from the 3-point range...Hood shot 21-of-68 (30.9 percent) from the field and 7-of-25 from long range...Hickey finished with a game-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting...Webster added 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting, while she was also 6-of-6 from the free throw line...Goyak chipped in with 14 points and added a game-high 24 rebounds, as well as five assists...Boger finished with nine points, while freshman Leah Steiner had two points, eight rebounds and three assists...Freshman Lizzy Tilton added four points to go with five assists and four rebounds...Sophomore RuthAnn Hostetler also had two points, three rebounds and two assists...Denisha Robinson had a team-high 16 points for Hood.
The Coach Says: "We wanted to get off to a quick start tonight, and we did," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We shared the ball well and played the best team basketball that we have all season long. Hood made a run in the third quarter, but we were able to adjust and put a stop to it and extend our lead. When the bench came in, they did well and added to our team tonight. This is a great way to end the semester and give us momentum heading into the second semester."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 2-7 all-time against Hood...This was the first meeting between the teams since the 2002-03 season, when Hood defeated the Chargers, 67-40 in Frederick, Md...Monday marked the fourth time this season Hickey has scored 20 or more points in a game...Webster passed the 20-point mark in a game for the fifth time this season, as she caps the best semester of her collegiate career...Goyak had a double-double, two days after seeing her streak of 38 straight come to an end...She now has a double-double in 39 of her 40 games in a Lancaster Bible uniform...Hickey and Webster have combined for 40 of the 42 3-pointers made by the Chargers this season.
