The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team saw its 2016-17 season come to an end on Friday night in Rochester, N.Y. as the Chargers lost to Ohio Christian, 71-55 in the NCCAA Division I Midwest Region Semifinals. Lancaster Bible ends its year with a 20-9 record, while the Trailblazers improved to 22-10.Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible's shooting in the first quarter resembled the weather outside the building in Rochester, N.Y. as the Chargers had just one bucket over the first six minutes of the game. Despite the slow start, the Chargers trailed just 11-7 after sophomore
Courtney Goyak converted a layup with 3:47 remaining in the opening quarter. A bucket from freshman
Emily Morgan and two more free throws from Goyak helped the Chargers to trail by just seven after 10 minutes of play.
The shooting woes returned in the second quarter as Lancaster Bible again recorded just one basket in the first five minutes of the quarter and this time, the Trailblazers made them pay as Ohio Christian took a double digit lead and extended it throughout the second frame. Goyak's bucket with 5:05 to play in the half cut the Chargers' deficit to 12, but Lancaster Bible would score just two more points the rest of the half and trailed 40-17 at the break.
After senior
Naomi Otis scored the opening three points for the Chargers, Goyak and Morgan scored the remaining 14 points of the half for Lancaster Bible.
The third quarter saw the Lancaster Bible offense wake up a bit, but Ohio Christian continued to score on many of their possessions and Lancaster Bible trailed, 59-31 after 30 minutes of play.
Though the game was out of reach, Lancaster Bible played its best quarter in the fourth as the Chargers outscored Ohio Christian, 24-12. Junior
Kirsten Webster scored eight points in the quarter, while senior
Krissy Pennell ended her collegiate career with her best quarter of the game as well.
