Lancaster Bible Caps Season with Two Victories

The Lancaster Bible College softball team played an unexpected two games on Thursday as the Chargers helped out Trinity (D.C.) who needed games to reach the NCAA minimum for games played in a season. The Tigers, like many teams along the East Coast had several postponements throughout the regular season. Despite the last-second doubleheader, the Chargers made the most of the day as they earned a sweep and finished the year with two victories and reached double digit wins for the year.

Lancaster Bible crushed Trinity (D.C.), 26-0 in game one and overcame an early deficit in game two, to win, 15-7. Both victories came in five innings as the Chargers finished the year with a record of 11-27, while the Tigers dropped to 1-23.

Game Notes:
Lancaster Bible pounded 16 hits and was aided by seven Tigers' errors, as the Chargers scored 24 runs in the first two innings to cruise to their largest win of the season...The Chargers sent 17 batters to the plate in the first and 15 more to bat in the second inning to put a stranglehold on the Tigers...Defensively, Lancaster Bible was led by senior Julia D'Arrigo who fired a no-hitter in her final game as a pitcher...The no-hitter is the fifth in program history and the second that D'Arrigo has been a part of, as she combined to throw a no-hitter with Kelsey Collins last season.

Inside the Box Score: D'Arrigo was on fire at the plate too as she went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored...McKayla Smucker was 1-for-3 with two walks and four runs scored...Zoie Senn was 2-for-3 with four RBI and three runs scored...Morgan Burkholder, Kayla Thoune, Marissa Senn and Catilin March each scored three runs, while senior Kelsey Collins was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI...Sam Denson was 1-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Game Notes: After not getting a single hit in game one, Trinity scored six runs in the top of the first of game two to take an early, 6-0 lead...The Chargers answered with four in their half of the first inning and then took the lead in the bottom of the second on an RBI single from Thoune...Trinity got a run back in the third, but Lancaster Bible scored three times in the fourth and fifth innings, the final run coming on a single from D'Arrigo in her final collegiate at-bat.

Inside the Box Score: Collins went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI in her final collegiate game, while D'Arrigo was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI...Denson was 2-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored...Burkholder and March each added two hits as well for the Chargers....Freshman Martina McCauley picked up the win and was also 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Information Hodge Podge: Since returning softball to varsity status for the 2014 season, Lancaster Bible has pitched at least one no-hitter in every season...Lancaster Bible raised its team batting average 14 points after the two victories.
