Fit to be Tied

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team returned to action on Monday night after a five-day layoff and played Gwynedd Mercy to a scoreless, double overtime tie in Gwynedd Valley, Pa. The tie brings the Chargers' record to 2-2-1 this season, while Griffins are now 0-6-1.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible burst out of the gate in the first half as the Chargers registered a shot and two corner kicks in the first 13 minutes of the contest. The Griffins countered in the latter parts of the first half and outshot the Chargers 5-4 in the opening 45 minutes.

Lancaster Bible dominated much of the second half and outshot the Griffins, 6-2. The Chargers had several chances in the closing minutes to get the game-winner, including two shots on goal and two corner kicks, but Gwynedd Mercy stood tall and the game headed to overtime.

In the first overtime, Lancaster Bible had the only two shots, but neither was on goal. In the second overtime, Gwynedd Mercy had a golden opportunity to win the game just 30 seconds into the period, but Matt Saba's shot hit the post and the game stayed at 0-0.

Lancaster Bible had two shots in the final five minutes of the second overtime, as well as a corner kick, but could not get the winner and the game ended as a scoreless tie.

The Coach Says: "Tonight was a positive step for us, despite the result," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We played 110 minutes of quality soccer with very few lapses. Overall, this was a positive step and we are looking forward to preparing for the game on Wednesday."
