The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team won its first North Eastern Athletic Conference game of 2017 on Saturday, as the Chargers celebrated Homecoming with a 6-1 victory over St. Elizabeth. The Chargers are now 4-4-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action, while the Eagles fell to 0-7-1 overall and 0-2 in NEAC play.
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped out of the gate as senior
Edward Bills marked his final Homecoming in Lancaster with a goal just 1:58 into the contest. Bills took a crossing pass from junior
Jared Jordan and deposited the ball into the middle of the net.
Though Lancaster Bible had most of the possession in the first half, the Chargers couldn't find the net again until 38:17 when freshman
Rama Mugisha knocked down a punt attempt from the St. Elizabeth goalkeeper, Jason Pineda, and put the ball into an open net. Just 49 seconds later, Mugisha was at it again, as he took a pass from
Jeremy Latshaw and gave the Chargers a 3-0 advantage just before halftime.
The score remained 3-0 for over 25 minutes into the second half, when junior
Caleb Nelson scored his fifth of the year on a pass from
Brandon Taylor. Taylor took an initial pass from
Ivan Correa who played it forward for Nelson who ran the ball down and scored.
St. Elizabeth's Raul Galindo Rojas scored his second goal of the year at 75:48 on a nice shot into the right-side of the net, but Lancaster Bible restored its four-goal lead just 1:11 later when Nelson scored again on a crossing pass from
Chad Tolson.
Taylor capped the scoring for the Chargers at 82:29, as he took a lead pass from
Isaac Gutierrez and scored past the diving goalkeeper.
