The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team saw its six-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday, as the Chargers lost to Penn St. Berks, 68-67 in Reading, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 12-8 overall this season and 10-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 7-9 overall and 5-6 in NEAC action.
1st Quarter Highlights:
-Both teams shot the ball well in the first quarter, including Lancaster Bible sophomore Caitlin Hickey, who scored the final five points of the quarter for the Chargers, as the game was tied 20-20 after 10 minutes of play
2nd Quarter Highlights:
-The shooting percentages for both teams dropped in the second quarter, though junior Courtney Goyak's layup with 7:41 to play gave the Chargers a 26-22 lead
-Penn St. Berks scored nine of the final 11 points of the second half, and grabbed a 38-32 halftime advantage
3rd Quarter Highlights:
-The Nittany Lions extended their lead to 10 early in the quarter, though Lancaster Bible fought back and cut the deficit to four, 46-42 with 3:42 to play in the quarter
-A late jumper by Penn St. Berks' Sam Brensinger gave the Nittany Lions a 54-47 lead after 30 minutes of play
4th Quarter Highlights:
-Penn St. Berks took an 11-point lead with 6:55 to play, but a 6-0 run by Lancaster Bible over the next two minutes, capped by a layup from senior Kirsten Webster, cut the deficit to just five
-Webster's 3-pointer 2:30 later, cut the Chargers' deficit to one, 62-61, and her layup on Lancaster Bible's next possession gave the Chargers their first lead since the opening half
-The teams traded baskets over the final minute, as Penn St. Berks grabbed a 66-65 lead with 13 seconds to play
-After a timeout, Hickey was fouled with seven seconds to play and knocked down both free throws to restore Lancaster Bible's one-point lead, 67-66
-Penn St. Berks called timeout following Hickey's free throws, and advanced the ball to mid-court...Kylie Herman knocked down a jumper with four seconds to play, her third straight bucket for the Nittany Lions, to give Penn St. Berks a 68-67 advantage
-Webster's 3-point try with two seconds remaining missed the target and the Chargers winning streak was over
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 26-of-65 (40 percent) from the floor, and 11-of-16 from the free throw line...Penn St. Berks shot 32-of-69 (46.4 percent) from the field, including 3-of-13 from 3-point range...Webster finished with 22 points for the Chargers, while Hickey had 19 points, seven rebounds and four assists...Goyak added 15 points, 17 boards and three steals...Sophomore Kaylee Boger had six points, while freshman Leah Steiner chipped in with three points and four rebounds...Jennifer Martin and Brensinger each had 17 points for Penn St. Berks.

Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "I'm disappointed by our lack of effort and execution in the first three quarters. Hopefully we can turn it around, and quickly, as we head to New York this weekend."
