The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team played their final non-conference game of the 2017-18 season on Sunday against an opponent the Chargers had never seen before, as Lancaster Bible battled The College of Staten Island in Staten Island, N.Y. Though the Chargers battled, the strong Dolphins' club proved to be too much and defeated Lancaster Bible, 79-60. The loss drops the Chargers to 6-7 this season, while the Dolphins improved to 11-2.
1st Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible earned a 7-6 lead 3:28 into the contest, as junior Courtney Goyak scored five the team's first seven points
-The Chargers led, 14-13 with 3:39 left in the first quarter, but the Dolphins used a 11-2 run over a 2:14 span to take a 24-16 lead, before the Chargers scored the final four points of the quarter and trailed, 24-20 after 10 minutes of play
2nd Quarter Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible trailed throughout the second quarter, though a 3-pointer by sophomore Caitlin Hickey with 4:29 remaining brought the Chargers to within three, 32-29
-Staten Island's defense clamped down on the Chargers and the Dolphins built as much as an 11-point lead, before taking a 10-point advantage, 43-33 into halftime
3rd Quarter Highlights:
-The Chargers scored just four points in the opening five minutes of the third quarter, as Staten Island built a 17-point lead
-Lancaster Bible chipped away and cut its deficit to 13 at one point, but Staten Island fought back and led again by 17 after 30 minutes of play
4th Quarter Highlights:
-Staten Island led by 20 on three separate occasions in the final quarter, but a bucket by junior Sara Bell with 37 seconds to play kept the final score under the 20-point margin for the Chargers
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 23-of-60 (38.3 percent) from the field and just 3-of-19 from 3-point range...Staten Island was 30-of-67 (44.8 percent) from the floor, and 10-of-28 from beyond the arc...Hickey and Goyak each finished with 17 points, as Hickey had all three of Lancaster Bible's 3-pointers...Goyak finished with 18 rebounds as well...Senior Kirsten Webster added 16 points, as she was a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line...Freshman Lizzy Tilton posted six points and six boards, while Bell finished with two points and four rebounds...Samantha Flecker finished with a game-high 25 points for the Dolphins.

Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "We didn't come out ready to play, and it's not the way we wanted to end our non-conference schedule. Overall, I thought we played a very tough non-conference schedule over the first part of the season and I'm excited for the way it has challenged us and prepared us for our upcoming conference games."
Information Hodge Podge: Sunday was the first time the two programs had ever faced one another...Lancaster Bible held a 41-36 edge in rebounds...Lancaster Bible has made just 14 3-pointers in its last five games...Lancaster Bible has faced Staten Island in one other sport, as the Chargers dropped a doubleheader in baseball to the Dolphins during the 2016 season.
