The Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team lost in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinals for the second straight season on Tuesday, falling to Cazenovia, 1-0 in Cazenovia, N.Y. The Chargers are now 7-7-2 overall, while the Wildcats improved to 12-5-1.
Lancaster Bible will now wait and see if the team will take part in the NCCAA Midwest Regional Playoffs, which would be played in early November at a time and site to be determined.
Game Recap: The first half featured plenty of play throughout the midfield, as scoring chances were hard to come by. Lancaster Bible had just three shots in the opening 45 minutes, while Cazenovia had four.
The second half featured more offense, but unfortunately for the Chargers, it came from Cazenovia, as they peppered the Chargers' goal with seven shots in the first 10 minutes. One of the shots found the back of the net, as Cassidy Rattray scored at 49:35 off an assist from Michaela Breeze to put the Wildcats ahead, 1-0.
After Cazenovia's initial offensive onslaught early in the second half, the teams went back to the first half way of play, as the teams traded possession through the midfield.
Lancaster Bible did all it could to advance the ball down the field in the waning minutes, but Cazenovia's pressure proved to be too much, and the Wildcats dominated the final 10 minutes with corner kicks tries and possession to capture the victory.
By the Numbers: Cazenovia led 18-5 in shots, including, 7-1 in shots on goal…The Wildcats also led in corner kicks, 6-1…Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Erin Mikula made six saves in the loss, while
Bryanna Hoover led the team with three shots.
The Coach Says: "I thought we struggled to get a rhythm going today, and just didn't do a lot of the things we have done well over the past few weeks," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Ally Brown said. "
Maddie Dionne played a strong game once again, and there were a few other girls who played big minutes, like
Bryanna Stutzman who helped shut down Cazenovia's best player for much of the game. I think we need to keep working on the little things, and making sure that we play a complete game. We have to outwork teams, and we didn't do that for enough minutes today."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 7-2-1 all-time against Cazenovia…The Chargers lost in penalty kicks to Bryn Athyn in last season's NEAC Quarterfinals…Lancaster Bible is 3-3-2 on the road this season…Hoover leads the team in shots this season with 38…The Chargers and Wildcats tied 1-1 during the regular season.
Up Next: Lancaster Bible will await and see whether they will earn a chance to compete in the NCCAA Midwest Region Playoffs…Because many teams use the NCCAA as a secondary postseason option, the Chargers must wait until the other teams in the Midwest Region advance or lose in their conference playoffs, before anything can be decided upon for the NCCAA…Continue to visit www.lbcchargers.com for updates.
