The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team earned its first victory of the 2018-19 season on Saturday, as the Chargers defeated Penn St. Schuylkill, 76-30 at Horst Athletic Center. In addition to the victory, Chargers junior
Caitlin Hickey became the 12th player in program history so score 1,000 points, as she converted a layup early in the third quarter to accomplish the feat.Â
Lancaster Bible is now 1-1 this season, while the Nittany Lions fell to 0-1.Â
Game Recap: Lancaster Bible took control of the game from the opening tip, as the Chargers built a 10-2 lead over the first 4:34 of the contest. Freshman
Mekenzie Smith scored eight of the 10 points, as she was able to get the basket at will and score easy points for the Chargers.

Hickey took over in the final minutes of the opening quarter, as she scored 11 straight points, nine of which came on three 3-pointers. Hickey finished the quarter with 15 points, as she and Smith combined for 23 of the team's 30 first-quarter points.

The Chargers continued to build their lead in the second quarter, and took as large as a 37-point advantage when junior
Becca Lucente knocked down a 3-pointer to make it 47-10 in favor of Lancaster Bible with 2:25 to play in the half.

Smith scored the first four points of the third quarter for the Chargers, and then with 6:43 remaining in the quarter, Hickey took a pass from sophomore
Lizzy Tilton, and converted the fastbreak layup for the 1,000
th point of her career. Hickey needed 17 points coming into Saturday's game, and got exactly that, as she became the 12
th player in program history to reach 1,000 points.

Lancaster Bible continued to pour it on in the second half, as
Hope Hodges starred for much of the final 20 minutes. She scored six of Lancaster Bible's 10 points in the fourth quarter, and scored eight of the final 12 points overall.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) from the floor, and was 5-of-17 from beyond the arc…The Nittany Lions show 23.8 percent (10-of-42) from the field, and were just 1-of-11 from 3-point range…Hickey led four players in double figures with 17 points, and also added three rebounds, three assists and three steals…Smith finished with 14 points, four rebounds and four steals…Hodges added 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals…
Courtney Goyak had 10 points and eight boards, while
Christine Graves had eight points, and Lucente finished with a career- best seven points…
Sonja Nelson added six points, and Tilton had a team-high five assists…
Katie Baker chipped in with three boards and three assists, as the Chargers had 26 assists.
