Chargers Complete Perfect Weekend

The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team completed a perfect weekend on Sunday, as the Chargers swept both Penn St. Altoona and Hiram in Altoona, Pa. The 3-0 victory over the host Nittany Lions was a North Eastern Athletic Conference match, and the Chargers are now 2-0 in conference play, while the victory over Hiram was a non-conference battle and moved the Chargers to 9-3 overall this year.

1st Set Highlights:
-The teams traded points for much of the first set, but Penn St. Altoona finally won three straight points and grabbed a 15-13 lead
-Trailing, 18-16, Lancaster Bible rattled off five straight points and took a 21-18 lead...During the run, junior Nate Miller and sophomore Kole Horst had kills for the Chargers, while Miller also added an ace
-Back-to-back kills from senior Kasey Gentry clinched the set for the Chargers

2nd Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible won the first three points of the second set to take an early lead, and won four of five points midway through the set to grab a 14-9 lead...Kills from Miller and Gentry sandwiched around an ace from Horst to build the five-point lead
-Penn St. Altoona closed the gap to 21-19 late in the set, but Lancaster Bible hung tough and won four of the final five points for the 25-21 victory...Kills from Horst and Miller put the set away for Lancaster Bible

3rd Set Highlights:
-The teams traded points early in the third set, but Lancaster Bible won seven of eight points midway through the set to take a 13-10 lead.
-Following a Nittany Lions' error, Lancaster Bible got an ace from junior Joshua Rotz, and another kill from Miller, to make it 17-13
-Lancaster Bible maintained its lead and then put the match away with five straight points to take a 23-15 advantage
-Junior Daniel Kreider ended the match for the Chargers, smashing a kill to give Lancaster Bible a 25-19 win

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible posted 38 kills against 17 errors on 92 attacks for a .228 hitting percentage...Penn St. Altoona had 26 kills against 20 errors on 89 attacks for a .067 hitting percentage...The Chargers had seven aces, while the Nittany Lions did not have any...Lancaster Bible held a 10-4 edge in blocks as well...Miller finished with 20 kills, seven digs, three aces and four blocks for the Chargers...Horst had eight kills and three blocks...Gentry added five kills and seven digs, while sophomore Kaleb Ansell had 34 assists...Kreider and senior Sky Woelkers each had three blocks, and junior Kurt Maysilles had a team-high 10 digs...Dan Downs had a team-high eight kills for the Nittany Lions.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 4-11 all-time against Penn St. Altoona...Sunday's win snaps an eight-game losing streak to Penn St. Altoona...The Chargers lost to the Nittany Lions, 3-1 and 3-0 last season...The 10 blocks are a season high for the Chargers.

1st Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible jumped out to a 10-3 lead, as Kreider capped the opening run with a kill from the middle
-The Chargers maintained a sizable lead throughout the rest of the set, and earned the 25-21 win on an error by Hiram

2nd Set Highlights:
-In one of the longest sets of the season for the Chargers, the teams went back-and-forth the entire set
-The Chargers fought off three set points late in the set, as they trailed 25-24, 27-26, 28-27, but never gave in and won the final three points of the set, to earn the win, 30-28...After a service error from Hiram, Gentry converted two straight kills to lead Lancaster Bible to the victory

3rd Set Highlights:
-After trading points early in the set, Lancaster Bible won six of seven points to take a 15-9 lead midway through the set
-Lancaster Bible maintained a lead the rest of the way, and clinched the set after a kill from freshman Benjamin Herb and an error by Hiram

By the Numbers: The Chargers had 43 kills against 20 errors on 98 attempts for a .235 hitting percentage...Hiram posted 26 kills against 13 errors on 78 attempts for a .167 hitting percentage...Each team had three blocks, and the Chargers held a 7-1 edge in aces...Horst led the Chargers with 12 kills and eight digs, while Gentry posted 11 kills and five digs...Miller finished with seven kills and three aces in just two sets of action, while Herb chipped in with four kills...Kyran Flahive posted three kills for the Chargers, while fellow freshman Zach Keating had five assists and three digs...Zeke Hallman finished with two kills as well, while Phillip Maher added a kill...Alex Andrzejewski had a team-high nine kills for Hiram.

Information Hodge Podge: This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams...The loss dropped Hiram to 3-9 this season...Lancaster Bible is now 7-2 in matches away from Horst Athletic Center this season...This was the fifth time this season the Chargers have had 40 or more kills in a match this season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible has another long layoff now, and won't play again until Friday, March 2 when the Chargers host Eastern Mennonite at 6 p.m.
