NEAC Women's Basketball Quarterfinal Preview

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team hosts Penn St. Abington in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinals Tuesday at 8 p.m., as both teams look to advance to the NEAC Final Four this weekend.
 
Team Records:
Penn St. Abington: 13-11, 8-8 NEAC…South Division 4th seed
Lancaster Bible: 17-8, 15-1 NEAC…South Division Champion
 
How They Got Here:
Penn St. Abington: The Nittany Lions split their final six NEAC games of the season to finish 8-8 and earn the fourth seed in the South Division…Penn St. Abington had a chance to earn the second seed heading into its final regular season game on Saturday, but lost to Gallaudet, 65-56, enabling the Bison to grab the second spot.
 
Lancaster Bible: The Chargers won the NEAC South Division for the sixth consecutive season, finishing 15-1, with the only setback coming to Penn St. Berks on Jan. 31…Tonight will mark the sixth straight season Lancaster Bible has hosted at least one NEAC Playoff game.
 
Regular Season Matchups:
Jan. 27, 2018 (LBC, W, 72-55): Penn St. Abington led at the half, 36-34, as the Nittany Lions outscored the Chargers, 19-12 in the second quarter…The Chargers' defense clamped down in the second half, holding Penn St. Abington to just 19 points in the final 20 minutes, as Lancaster Bible doubled up the Nittany Lions, 38-19 in the second half…Penn St. Abington was just 7-of-30 from the floor in the second half, including 1-of-9 from 3-point range…The Chargers meanwhile were 14-of-26 from the field in the second half…Sophomore Caitlin Hickey had 22 points to lead the Chargers, while junior Courtney Goyak had 17 points and 24 rebounds…Senior Kirsten Webster added 18 points and three assists…Shayna Rodriguez had a team-high 25 points for the Nittany Lions.
 
Feb. 14, 2018 (LBC, W, 71-56): Lancaster Bible led by just three at halftime, 33-30, but outscored the Nittany Lions, 21-13 in the third quarter to grab a 54-43 advantage after 30 minutes…Penn St. Abington cut its deficit to four, 58-54 with 6:16 remaining, but Lancaster Bible outscored the Nittany Lions, 13-2 the rest of the way to earn the 15-point win…Webster had a team-high 23 points to lead the Chargers, as she was 10-of-10 from the free throw line…Hickey added 15 points, while Goyak had 11 points and 20 rebounds…Freshman Lizzy Tilton also scored in double figures with 10 points and four boards…Rodriguez had a game-high 28 points for Penn St. Abington.

Penn St. Abington: The Nittany Lions are 7-6 away from home this season, and were 4-4 on the road in NEAC play…Rodriguez finished second in the NEAC with 22.3 points per game, as she is 197-of-447 from the field this year…Symantha Marrero is the only other Penn St. Abington player scoring in double figures at 13.9 points per game…Grace Dewey finished second in the NEAC with 79 blocks.
 
Lancaster Bible: The Chargers are 8-4 at home this season, and have won six straight games at Horst Athletic Center after starting the season 2-4…Lancaster Bible finished second in the NEAC in defense, allowing just 57.4 points per game…Webster leads the Chargers with 17.9 points per game, while also averaging 3.5 assists per game…Hickey is averaging 17.3 points per game, while Goyak is scoring 14 points per game, and averaging an NCAA Division III-best 18.3 rebounds per game…These two teams met in last season's NEAC Quarterfinal Round, with Lancaster Bible pulling out a 73-70 double overtime victory…Hickey knocked down a 3-pointer with eight seconds to play to give Lancaster Bible the victory.
