The Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team opened its 2018 campaign with a 17-5 loss at Hood on Friday in Frederick, Md. The Blazers improved to 1-2 with the victory, while the Chargers dropped to 0-1.Â
1st Half Highlights:
-Hood scored just 45 seconds into the game, but Lancaster Bible responded 1:10 into the contest as junior Hannah Thompson knotted the game at 1-1 off a feed from senior Myranda Kemrer
-The Blazers took a 3-1 lead over the next six minutes, but sophomore Sarah Vega scored her first collegiate goal 9:35 into the game to make it 3-2, as Hope Privitera picked up the assist
-Trailing, 7-2, Thompson scored again for the Chargers, this time with 7:26 remaining in the half to cut the Chargers' deficit to 7-3
-Hood scored the final four goals of the opening 30 minutes however, and took an 11-3 advantage into halftime
2nd Half Highlights:
-The teams traded goals to open the second half, just like they had done in the opening half, as Thompson completed the hat trick with a goal 7:46 into the second frame
-The Blazers rattled off four more goals and took a commanding 16-4 lead, though freshman Kaitlyn Myers scored the first goal of her collegiate career for the Chargers to make it 16-5 with just under three minutes to play
-Hood capped the scoring with 1:42 to play, as Cassidy O'Neill made it 17-5 in favor of the Blazers
By the Numbers: Hood outshot the Chargers, 30-14, including 19-5 in the opening 30 minutes...The Chargers picked up 10 ground balls, and had 11 draw controls...Privitera finished with two assists, while Kemrer had a team-high five shots...Thompson led the team with four ground balls...Lancaster Bible goalie Nicolette Statuti made nine saves in the loss.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-9 all-time against Hood...In 13 seasons of women's lacrosse at Lancaster Bible, the Chargers have won their season opener just once, which came with last season's 17-5 victory over Bryn Mawr...Friday marked the first game between the teams since March 23, 2015, which Hood won, 16-3 in Frederick, Md...Thompson had at least three goals in a game five times last season.
