The Lancaster Bible College softball team dropped its final two games of the season on Saturday, falling ot Penn St. Abington at Charger Field. Lancaster Bible lost game one, 4-1, and fell in game two, 9-0 in five innings. The Chargers capped their season with an overall record of 5-31, and a 2-16 mark in North Eastern Athletic Conference Play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 8-20 overall and 7-7 in conference action.Â
Saturday was also Senior Day, as the Chargers celebrated the career of their lone senior, Kayla Thoune.
Penn St. Abington 4, Lancaster Bible 1 -- Game 1
-Game Notes
-After each team went down in order in the first, both Abington and Lancaster Bible recorded a hit in the second inning, but could not take advantage and the game remained scoreless after two innings
-The Nittany Lions put two runners on in the third, but Lancaster Bible starter Nicole DeKok got out of the jam by inducing an inning-ending groundout
-Lancaster Bible finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning, as DeKok and Morgan Burkholder hit back-to-back doubles to put runners on second and third with nobody out…After an out, Katie Kleinhans reached on a fielder's choice, as DeKok was thrown out at home, while Burkholder advanced to third…With Kendra Brown at-bat, Kleinhans took off for second base and swiped the bag, as Burkholder broke for home and stole home, putting the Chargers ahead, 1-0
-Both teams went in order in the fifth inning, but Penn St. Abington scored twice in the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead, and then tacked on two more in the seventh, as Lancaster Bible could not mount a comeback

-Lancaster Bible had six hits in game one, while the Nittany Lions had just four…Burkholder finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Kleinhans was also 2-for-3…Zoie Senn and DeKok had the other Lancaster Bible hits…DeKok was the hard-luck loser, as she pitched well, going seven innings, allowing just four hits, two earned runs, while striking out two…Abington's Becca Dougherty also pitched seven innings, allowing just one run and six hits, while striking out seven.

-Abington scored four times in the top of the first, as Danielle Hebling hit her first home run of the season, a three-run homer, to highlight the inning
-The score remained the same until the fifth inning, when the Nittany Lions tacked on five runs on five hits and an error to take a commanding 9-0 lead
-Brown led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, but the Chargers couldn't bring her around, and the game ended after five innings

-Brown was 2-for-2 in game two, as the Chargers had just four hits
-DeKok and Marissa Senn were each 1-for-2 as well for Lancaster Bible
-Hebling finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs
-Dougherty earned her second win of the day, as she pitched five innings of shutout ball and struck out four
