Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Lancaster Bible Earns Big Victory

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team accomplished two things with its first victory of 2018 on a dreary Saturday afternoon in Lancaster, Pa., as the Chargers not only cracked the win column, but earned a huge North Eastern Athletic Conference victory as well, defeating Penn St. Berks, 4-1. The Chargers now stand at 1-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play, while the Nittany Lions dropped to 2-1-1 overall and 0-1 in NEAC action.

Game Recap: Lancaster Bible held much of the possession in the first half, though had few shots on the goal for most of the opening 45 minutes. Penn St. Berks meanwhile had very little of the possession, but had the only shot on goal for much of the first half.

Late in the first half, Lancaster Bible was awarded a corner kick, and though the chance failed, the Chargers earned another corner kick, but had to make a substitution with under 30 seconds to play. As the substitution was made, Chargers' freshman Kedric Yoder lined up the corner kick, and fired it towards the goal with under five seconds to play. The ball bounced off a Penn St. Berks defender and into the back of the net with one second to play, to give the home team a 1-0 advantage heading into halftime.

Lancaster Bible continued to control the game early in the second half, and was rewarded just over 10 minutes into the second frame, when sophomore Jeremy Latshaw raced down the right side line and crossed the ball to freshman Rusty Risteen who was waiting in the box, and put the perfectly placed ball into the goal.

Less than seven minutes later, Risteen was awarded another goal, as Penn St. Berks had a mis-communication in the box and scored into their own goal. The Nittany Lions got a goal back at 72:41, when Tom Ulrich collected a ball in the box and scored past Jake Deterline, but Lancaster Bible restored its three-goal lead less than four minutes later.

Senior Jared Jordan was tripped up at the top of the box as he went towards the goal, and was awarded a penalty kick which he converted into the left side of goal at 76:14.

The Coach Says: "I thought we controlled play in the midfield, and our midfielders did a great job of distributing the ball offensively, and moving it up and down the field," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "It was get to get our first win, but more importantly to earn a conference win."
