Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Play Well in Loss to SUNY Poly

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team dropped its second straight game on Sunday, falling to SUNY Poly, 69-56 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are now 3-12 overall and 1-5 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improved to 10-5 overall and 5-1 in conference action.

How it Happened: SUNY Poly jumped out to an 11-4 lead midway through the first quarter, as Cassidy Albright converted a layup with 5:11 remaining. The Chargers kept it close after a jumper from Caitlin Hickey at 3:09 made it 13-10 in favor of the Wildcats, but SUNY Poly extended their lead to nine, 20-11 with 1:12 to play. The Chargers closed the gap to five at the end of the quarter, as Lizzy Tilton and Christine Graves sandwiched buckets around a free throw from SUNY Poly.

Lancaster Bible took a 26-25 lead 2:34 into the second quarter, as Hickey drained a 3-pointer for the Chargers. The advantage didn't last long however, as the Wildcats used a 13-2 run to grab a 38-28 lead with 2:32 left to play in the half. Again though, the Chargers didn't get too far behind, and cut the deficit to seven, 38-31, at the half.

The teams traded buckets for the majority of the third quarter, as a late jumper from SUNY Poly's Shannon Harrison gave the Wildcats a seven point lead, 55-48, after 30 minutes of play. Despite not chipping away at the deficit, the third quarter was one of the best played quarters of the season for the Chargers, as they went toe-to-toe with SUNY Poly, and executed well on both ends of the floor.

The Wildcats were finally able to create some breathing room in the fourth quarter, as the Chargers went cold on the offensive end, and SUNY Poly eventually built a game-high 13-point advantage with 3:44 to play, and won by the same margin.
