The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team wrapped up its opening weekend of 2019 with a win and a loss on Saturday, as the Chargers dropped Saturday's opener to the third ranked team in the country, Carthage, 3-0, but rallied to defeat the Milwaukee School of Engineering, 3-0. The Chargers are now 1-2 overall this season.

Match Recap: The teams went back-and-forth for the entire first set, as the Chargers trailed 22-19 before winning three of four points to trail just 23-22 after a kill from
Kole Horst. Carthage won the final two points of the set however to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Lancaster won five straight points midway through the second set to grab an 11-7 lead, but Carthage took five straight points later in the set, and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the match after winning the set, 25-21.

Carthage jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the third set, but Lancaster Bible battled back and eventually trailed just 16-14 midway through the set. The Chargers did everything they could to tie the set and take the lead, but Carthage was too tough down the stretch and won four of the last five points to take the set, 25-18.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 33 kills, and posted a .137 hitting percentage, while Carthage had 42 kills and a .258 hitting percentage…Carthage also held a 35-34 edge in digs, and a 7-4 advantage in blocks…Horst had 10 kills to lead the Chargers, while
Jacob Faust had seven kills and six digs…
Benjamin Herb added eight kills, nine digs and two blocks.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 0-2 all-time against Carthage…This was the first meeting between the teams since the 2010 season.

Match Recap: Lancaster Bible won six of seven points midway through the opening set, as
Nate Miller opened the run with a service ace, and then the Chargers took advantage of five errors by the Raiders. The Chargers won four of five points later in the set as well, and took a 22-17 lead on another kill from Miller, before winning the set, 25-18.

Both teams used scoring runs to open the second set, but midway through the frame, Lancaster Bible won eight of nine points and took a commanding 14-7 lead. A block by
Zeke Hallman and Ansell helped get the Chargers going, and Miller capped the run with yet another kill. Lancaster Bible closed the second set by winning six of seven points, as a block by Hallman, and then a kill by Horst ended the set for the Chargers.

MSOE grabbed a 12-10 lead midway through the third set by winning six of seven points, but the Chargers battled back and won five of six points later in the set, as back-to-back block assists gave the Chargers a 17-16 advantage. The Chargers eventually gave themselves some breathing room, and a Raider error gave the set and the match to the Chargers.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 34 kills, and just 10 errors on 68 attempts for a .353 hitting percentage…MSOE posted 26 kills, but had 21 errors and a .060 hitting percentage…The Chargers led in digs, 33-23, and blocks, 8-3…
Nate Miller had a match-high 15 kills, and also added three aces and six digs…Horst chipped in with seven kills and six digs, while Herb also had seven kills…
Daniel Kreider had a team-best four blocks to go with five kills…
Kaleb Ansell chipped in with 28 assists and seven digs.

Information Hodge Podge: Saturday marked the first-ever match between the two schools…
Kole Horst was named to the Jim Coleman Invitational All-Tournament Team…The Chargers posted eight total blocks in two of their three matches this past weekend…The 34 kills against MSOE are a season-high, as is the .353 hitting percentage.
