The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team extended its run in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon, defeating SUNY Cobleskill, 2-0 in Cobleskill, N.Y. The victory propels the Chargers to the NEAC Semifinals where they will face top-seeded Penn St. Harrisburg on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m. in Middletown, Pa.
Â
Lancaster Bible is now 14-4-2 overall after the victory, while SUNY Cobleskill falls to 9-6-4 overall.
Â
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped out to an early 1-0 lead 3:47 into the contest, as
Kedric Yoder controlled a ball at the top of the box and flicked it to
Rama Mugisha who scored into the lower right-hand side of the net.
Â
Just two minutes later, the Chargers earned a corner kick, and after a scrum in front of the net, the ball found the foot of Nate Muckle who scored into the top left-hand corner of the goal to double the Chargers lead.
Â
The teams traded possession for much of the first half, though the Chargers had another great opportunity with about 10 minutes left in the half, as Yoder drilled a shot that rang off the crossbar. Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Jake Deterline did a great job patrolling the box, along with the Chargers defenders, and the teams went to halftime with Lancaster Bible leading, 2-0.
Â
SUNY Cobleskill came out strong in the second half, and controlled the early possession, and just missed an early chance to cut their deficit in half, but the shot went wide, and the game remained, 2-0.
Â
Deterline made his best save of the contest with just over 20 minutes to play, as a SUNY Cobleskill forward got free in the box and took a crossing pass, and chipped it to the right side of the goal, but Deterline sprawled out and made the save. Deterline was at it again seven minutes later, as a ball deflected off of him right to a SUNY Cobleskill forward, but Deterline lunged and made the save.
Â
Lancaster Bible ran out the clock over the final 10 minutes in the sleet and rain, and secured its spot in the NEAC Semifinals.
