The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team reached the 20-win plateau for the third straight season on Friday night, as the Chargers cruised past Keuka, 3-0 for the second time in eight days. The 10th ranked Chargers won, 25-15, 26-24, 25-7, and improved to 20-4 overall and 6-0 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wolves dropped to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible won five straight points early in the first set, and grabbed an early 7-3 lead, as
Nate Miller had three kills during the run, while
Kyran Flahive added two. Keuka fought back and cut the Chargers' lead to 8-7, but the Chargers rattled off 10 of the next 12 points, and led 18-9 midway through the set. Miller continued to pound the ball for three more kills, while
Reuben Kemrer added an ace, and
Zeke Hallman chipped in with a kill.
The Chargers won the first set on an error by the Wolves, and then jumped out to a 6-3 lead early in the second set, though Keuka tied the frame, 7-7 a few points later. The teams traded points for the next 20 points, and Lancaster Bible led, 16-15 after a kill from
Kaleb Ansell. The Chargers eventually led, 18-15, and 22-18, but Keuka rallied, and took a 24-23 lead on a Chargers' error. Lancaster Bible recovered, and finished the set with three straight points, as an ace from Flahive gave the Chargers a two-set lead.
The third set was all Chargers, as Lancaster Bible raced out to a 9-2 lead, as
Kole Horst capped the run with an ace. Lancaster Bible got two more aces from Flahive later in the set, and a kill from
Benjamin Herb a few points later gave the Chargers a 19-6 advantage. Three straight blocks gave the Chargers match point, as
Colin McCabe,
Caleb Roberts and Ansell all got into the action at the net, and Herb finished the match off with a kill.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 39 kills and just 12 errors on 74 attempts for a .365 hitting percentage, while the Wolves had 14 kills and 15 errors on 76 attempts for a -.013 attack percentage…The Chargers had 13 kills and zero errors on 19 attempts in the third set…The Chargers also led in digs, 37-19, and blocks, 7-3…Miller led the Chargers with 12 kills, four aces and six digs, while Horst added 11 kills and six digs…Ansell had 33 assists to go with two kills and four blocks…
Daniel Kreider had four kills and three blocks, and Flahive finished with four kills, three aces and two digs…Hallman also added four kills and a block…JP Nery and Brad McKnight paced the Wolves with six kills each.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 8-6 all-time against Keuka…The Chargers are 9-1 at Horst Athletic Center this season…The .365 hitting percentage is the highest mark for the Chargers since Feb. 23 when they hit .484 at Eastern Mennonite…The only other Lancaster Bible programs to win 20 or more contests are the men's basketball and women's basketball programs…The women's basketball team won 20+ games five straight seasons from 2012-13 to 2016-17, while the men's basketball team won 20+ games three straight years from 2013-14 to 2015-16.
