Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Fast Start Sends Greyhounds Past Chargers

The Lancaster Bible College men's soccer team fell to 1-1 this season on Saturday, as the Chargers lost to Moravian 2-0 at the Donald H. Funk Field. The Greyhounds improved to 2-0 with the victory, as they swept Penn St. Harrisburg and the Chargers on the opening weekend.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible got off to a great start in Friday's game, as the Chargers scored an early goal, but on Saturday, it was Moravian who took advantage of Lancaster Bible's slow start, and earned a penalty kick just 5:55 into the game. Anthony Nagy converted his penalty kick try for the second straight day, and gave the Greyhounds a 1-0 advantage.

Lancaster Bible picked up its play over the next few minutes, but couldn't convert its possession advantage into goals. Moravian continued to battle and control the game, and earned a corner kick midway through the opening half. Ethan Blakely's corner kick cross was kicked around and then left out front where Michael Feeley was waiting and deposited the ball into the back of the net for a 2-0 Moravian lead.

The Chargers had chances throughout the rest of the first half and the second half, but could not convert, as Moravian, while not always possessing the ball, controlled the game. The Greyhounds allowed the Chargers to move the ball east and west, but Lancaster Bible never had a solid chance to score, as the Greyhounds posted their second straight shutout.

Statistically Speaking: Lancaster Bible led in shots, 10-8, and shots on goal, 7-4…Moravian goalkeeper Michael Bone made seven saves for his second straight clean sheet…Jake Deterline played well in goal for the Chargers as well, making two saves in the loss…The Chargers also led 5-2 in corner kicks.

The Coach Says: "We learned today that we lack some maturity," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "I'm not sure why, but we were on our heels to start the match today. After the early goal we woke up, but it was too late. Credit Moravian for a very organized performance, as they were difficult to attack. We are looking forward to continuing to grow and to learn how to be the best team we can be."

News & Notes: Moravian leads the all-time series, 4-0 over Lancaster Bible…These same two teams met six years ago to the day, as Moravian bested Lancaster Bible, 3-2 on Aug. 31, 2013 in Bethlehem, Pa…The Chargers are 1-1 after two games for the fourth straight season.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible is off for over a week, as the Chargers will host Cairn on Monday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
