The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team won its eighth straight game on Saturday afternoon, earning a Senior Day victory over Cazenovia, 69-61 at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers are now 11-11 overall and 9-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while Cazenovia dropped to 7-15 overall and 5-8 in NEAC play.
Â
How it Happened: Cazenovia opened up an early 8-2 lead, as the Chargers struggled to shoot from the floor, but Lancaster Bible eventually found its footing, and took an 11-10 lead on a jumper from
Adalyn Steiner with 2:54 to play in the opening quarter.
Â
The teams were tied at 13-13 after 10 minutes of play, but Cazenovia opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run over the first two minutes of the frame, to take a 19-13 advantage. Lancaster Bible came right back with six points of their own, as Steiner,
Caitlin Hickey, and
Lizzy Tilton had buckets for the Chargers. The teams went back-and-forth from there, and Tilton's jumper with 14 seconds to play in the half sent the teams to the locker room knotted up at 30-30.
Â
Amy Holland gave Cazenovia a 41-37 lead midway through the third quarter, but Lancaster Bible answered with a 7-0 run, as Tilton's 3-pointer gave the Chargers a 42-41 lead, and Hickey's layup in transition extended it to 44-41. The teams traded 3-pointers following Hickey's basket, and Lancaster Bible eventually led, 51-48 after 30 minutes of play.
Â
The Chargers led by four, 56-52, after another 3-pointer from Hickey two minutes into the fourth quarter, but Cazenovia wouldn't go away, and took a 61-60 lead with 4:07 to play after free throws from Alexis Tubbs. Hickey hit a big jumper to restore the Chargers' one-point lead, 62-61, and the Lancaster Bible defense was stingy after that, and didn't allow a point in the final four minutes of play.
Mikayla Via hit four big free throws down the stretch, and Lancaster Bible secured its eighth straight win.

The Coach Says: "It was certainly a rough start shooting-wise for us, but we got into a bit of a rhythm late in the first half, and then switching to zone in the second half really helped us get some easy baskets to begin the third quarter," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
