The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team had its nine-game win streak snapped on Friday evening, as the Chargers lost to the North Eastern Athletic Conference's best team, SUNY Poly, 81-52 in Utica, N.Y. The Chargers are now 12-12 overall this season and 10-5 in NEAC play, while the Wildcats improved to 17-7 overall and 15-0 in conference action.

How it Happened: SUNY Poly took an early 9-3 lead, but a three-point play from
Adalyn Steiner helped the Chargers to within three, 9-6 with 5:33 to play in the opening quarter. SUNY Poly followed with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes however, and Lancaster Bible trailed by 11 after a jumper from
Caitlin Hickey snapped the scoring drought.

Lancaster Bible trailed by 13 after one quarter of play, but
Mikayla Via's free throw trimmed the deficit to nine, 25-16 with 6:27 to play in the first half. Like they did in the first quarter, the Wildcats went on a big scoring run towards the end of the quarter, and this time used a 12-2 run to take a 37-18 lead with 3:47 to play in the second quarter. Lancaster Bible scored the final four points of the first half to keep the game respectable after 20 minutes of play, and trailed, 42-27.

SUNY Poly extended its lead to over 20 early in the third quarter, and it remained there the rest of the way, including a 30-point lead for parts of the fourth quarter. Lancaster Bible did not score a basket in the final 5:43 of the game, and the host Wildcats won by 29.

By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 32.1 percent (17-of-53) from the floor, including just 3-of-17 from 3-point range…Lancaster Bible was 15-of-19 from the free throw line…SUNY Poly shot 51.6 percent (32-of-62) from the field, including 12-of-22 from beyond the arc…SUNY Poly outscored the Chargers, 24-11 in points off of turnovers, as Lancaster Bible committed 23 turnovers…
Christine Graves led the Chargers with 13 points and 10 rebounds, while
Lizzy Tilton added 11 points and six boards…
Caitlin Hickey had nine points and three rebounds, and Steiner had eight points…Kiersten Leos led all scorers with 16 points for SUNY Poly.

The Coach Says: "Tonight was a tough result against a solid team," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Katelyn Vanderhoff said. "When you play good teams, they take advantage of your mistakes, and that's exactly what SUNY Poly did. Poly shot the ball extremely well, and we struggled to execute at times. I thought the second and third quarter we competed better, but it wasn't enough to overcome a poor first quarter. We will regroup and get ready for tomorrow."
