Women's Basketball Takes Down Hood

How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team won a hard-fought battle with Hood College, defeating the Blazers by a score of 57-50 on Saturday, November 20.
 
The Chargers (2-2 Overall) got the offense going early when Adalyn Steiner drilled a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to give LBC a 5-2 lead. Tenia Brown extended the lead by gathering in a missed shot and banking in a layup. LBC's Jade Eshelman and Sydney Heller each knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Chargers a 11-4 lead. Hood (2-2 Overall) would answer back hitting a 3-pointer and jump shot late in the quarter to close back within two points. After LBC's Eshelman converted a layup, the Blazer's leading scorer Jenna Davis-Hans swished a 3-pointer with two seconds remaining in the quarter to make the score 13-12.
 
LBC would rebuild the lead early in the second quarter, retaking a five-point advantage on a layup by Jenna Dombach. Later in the quarter, Steiner finished a layup in transition to keep the five-point advantage. After a steal by Steiner, Kenzie Baughman ran the floor, converting a layup in transition to put LBC ahead 23-15. Heller followed with a 3-pointer extending the advantage to 11 points. The Blazers would rally back, closing within seven-points with under 30 seconds remaining in the half. Baughman would draw a foul in the closing seconds and after a technical foul was issued to Hood's bench the Chargers converted three free throws, giving the team a 29-19 lead at the break.
 
Dombach started the second half hot, driving to the basket for back-to-back layups. Lizzy Tilton added a layup of her own, giving the Chargers a 14-point advantage. Both teams would cool off with the the squads only scoring four total points over the next four minutes. The Blazers chipped away at the deficit, pulling within nine points with 3:57 remaining in the quarter. Dombach and Emma Drouillard answered back with layups, allowing LBC to retake a 13-point lead. The Blazers knocked down a 3-pointer just before the end of the quarter, but they trailed 45-35 heading to the final frame.
 
The Chargers and Blazers would trade baskets through the opening three minutes of the quarter, with LBC maintaining a 10-point edge off another layup by Dombach. She led the team in scoring with 11 points. Hood did not go away, closing within four points when Snoop Robinson drained a 3-pointer with 1:13 remaining. Tilton showed her composure, swishing a 3-pointer on the next possession to swing momentum back to the Chargers. After a pair of free throws by the Blazers, Tilton responded by drilling a deep jump shot to give LBC a 57-50 lead. The Chargers held on for the victory.
 
Inside The Numbers
- Jenna Dombach led the Chargers' offense, scoring 11 points on 5-8 shooting from the field
- Jade Eshelman battled in the post recording a double-double, scoring 10 points and gathering in 10 rebounds. Eshelman went 6-6 at the free throw line and for the season, she is 19-19 at the free throw line
- Lizzy Tilton scored nine points, including five key points late in the fourth quarter. Tilton also led the team in rebounds with 12 total boards
- Adalyn Steiner scored seven points, connecting once from beyond the arc
- Sydney Heller was the top scorer off the bench, totaling seven points in 11 minutes of action
- Despite a size advantage for Hood, the teams were even in rebounds with each team hauling in 42 boards
- The Blazers were led by Jenna Davis-Hans who scored 13 points
 
Coaching Points
"We played with a lot of grit and defensive intensity which was the difference in the game," said head coach Joy Tharrington. "Despite some fouling issues our defense disrupted their flow and allowed us to get some really good looks in transition. Lizzy hit two big shots down the stretch that sealed the game, showing once again her competitive spirit."
