Mustangs Race Past Chargers in NEAC Final

The historic season of the Lancaster Bible College women's lacrosse team came to an end on Saturday in Morrisville, N.Y, as the Chargers lost to Morrisville State, 22-8 in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Final. The Chargers, appearing in the NEAC Final for the first time in program history, battled for the opening 30 minutes, and trailed by just two at halftime, but couldn't replicate the feat in the second half, as the Chargers ended the year with a 6-4 overall record.
 
The Mustangs, now 7-2, will represent the NEAC at the NCAA Division III National Tournament next weekend.
 
How it Happened: Morrisville State opened the scoring with two quick goals in the first 4:12 of the contest, but Lancaster Bible senior Camryn Horst got the Chargers on the board 4:58 into the game with her 20th goal of the season. After another Morrisville State goal, senior Kaitlyn Myers brought the Chargers back to within one with her 15th tally of the season.
 
The Mustangs scored the next three goals of the game, as Aria Treadway's 37th goal of the year made it 6-2 with 17:34 to play in the opening half. Kendal Ream scored her first goal of the game with 13:52 left in the half, but Treadway scored just 46 seconds later to make it 7-3 in favor of the Mustangs.
 
The final eight minutes of the first half saw lots of goals, as the Chargers fought their way back into the contest. Katelynn Perrotta netted her 40th goal of the year with 8:15 to play in the half, and Ream scored her 39th of the year 34 seconds later to trim Lancaster Bible's deficit to 7-5. Myers made it 7-6 just 46 seconds after Ream's goal, but Morrisville State restored its two-goal lead with 3:39 left thanks to a goal from Maddie Baum.
 
Perrotta got Lancaster Bible back to within one at 8-7, but Morrisville State scored with 51 seconds left in the half, and took a 9-7 lead into the break.
 
The second half belonged to the Mustangs, as they outscored the Chargers, 13-1 and cruised to their fourth straight NEAC Championship.
 
By the Numbers: Morrisville State held a 36-28 lead in shots, including a 28-21 edge in shots on goal…Morrisville State held a 23-21 edge in ground balls, while the Chargers led, 17-15 in draw controls…Mustangs goalie Kadi Denney was named Most Valuable Player, as she made 13 saves for Morrisville State…Ream finished with three goals and six draw controls, while Perrotta and Myers each had two goals and an assist…Perrotta added seven draw controls and four ground balls…Horst finished with a goal and four ground balls…Alexis Garrett made six saves in the loss…Maddie Baum had five goals and seven assists to lead Morrisville State.
 
News & Notes: Lancaster Bible is now 0-10 all-time against Morrisville State…This was Lancaster Bible's first-ever appearance in the NEAC Final…Ream led the team with 56 points (40-16) this season, while Perrotta held the team lead with 41 goals…Horst, Myers, and Gabby Berry all played their final game in a Lancaster Bible uniform, as Horst finished her career with 27 goals, and Myers had 38.
