How It Happened
The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team picked up a dominating 74-46 victory over United East foe Penn College on Saturday, January 8.
The Chargers (6-6 Overall, 3-0 United East) got off to a strong start, capitalizing on baskets by
Alaysha Iwais and
Jade Eshelman to take an early 6-0 lead. Penn College (2-8 Overall, 1-2 United East) struggled to find its offensive rhythm thanks in part to the Chargers swarming defense that held the Wildcats under 19% shooting from the floor in the first half. Leading by eight points,
Emma Drouillard swished LBC's first 3-pointer of the game. Later in the quarter, off a steal by
Adalyn Steiner,
Lizzy Tilton found
Jenna Dombach in transition to put the Chargers ahead 17-6. Steiner closed the first quarter by draining a 3-pointer, giving LBC a 22-8 lead heading to the second quarter.
Mikayla Via opened the scoring in the second quarter, slashing to the basket for a layup.
Sydney Heller then swiped a steal and sprinted to the other end of the floor for the transition layup, putting LBC ahead 28-10. The Chargers held the 18-point lead throughout most of the second quarter, but the Wildcats capitalized on some free throw opportunities to prevent LBC from extending the lead any further. The Chargers held a 37-20 advantage going into the half.
The Chargers continued to roll, with Iwais swishing a 3-pointer to open the second half. Dombach followed with a 3-pointer, giving LBC a 43-21 lead. Drouillard hit the teams third 3-pointer of the quarter, putting the Chargers ahead by 25 points. The Chargers continued to light it up from beyond the arc with Heller, Steiner and Tilton each draining a 3-pointer. Eshelman ran the floor, scoring a layup in transition to put LBC ahead 59-28. Via hit one more 3-pointer, helping LBC to take a 31-point lead heading to the fourth quarter. With the large lead, LBC turned to its bench to bring home the victory. The Chargers continued to dominate the game flow, picking up the 74-46 victory.

Coaching Points
"I am pleased with how we shared the ball and how we shot the ball confidently," said head coach
Joy Tharrington. "Even though we tied them on the boards, I felt like they won a lot of hustle plays, that is an area I would like to see us improve in moving forward. I thought our bench came in ready to play and contributed, which was good see."
