The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team completed a second half comeback to beat the Eastern University Eagles 2-1 in Saturday afternoon's non-conference matchup. The win not only caps off their 2022 season with a solid win against a good Eagles team, but it ends the season on a solid three-game winning streak. The Chargers finish 10-7 on the year and 4-4 in United East play while the Eagles finished 1-12-5 overall and an 0-6-2 MAC Commonwealth record.
How It Happened: The first half would open with both teams doing what they could to try and find a breakdown within the opposing defenses. Neither would have much luck though, despite the several opportunities both would have. The Eagles would outshoot the Chargers in the first half 8-2, but both would head into halftime with nothing on the board.
Coming out of the half, the Chargers would look to set the tone early, featuring a corner kick just 44 seconds into play. Despite the offensive push by the Chargers, it would be the Eagles who would be the first to find the board in the 52
nd minute of the game. Eastern would have the first lead of the game, but it wouldn't be for long as a through ball from the left side of the field would find a Charger attack player
Alison Cranga streaking towards the middle of the box. Cranga would control the ball, take two dribbles in, and send it right into the back of the net, equalizing the game in the 64
th minute. The teams would again trade sides of the field, but a slip up in the defense would allow a pass from freshman Janae Bergey to narrowly get past the Eagles' backline and into the foot of
Kendal Ream who would connect on the volley and score the game-winning goal. Ream would score in the 72
nd minute on a great assist from Bergey. The Chargers defense would hold off any last-ditch efforts from the Eagles in the last 18 minutes of the game and finish their season with a 2-1 win.
From the Coach: "
Proud of this team and the way we finished the season. We did a great job today overcoming being down a goal. I'm happy for our seniors to be able to finish our year on a high" – Head Coach Jake Warren
