Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Hunter Gerber

Women’s Basketball Rush Past Neumann

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team, in their first contest back from Thanksgiving break, raced to a 53-43 win to secure the program's first ever win over the Neumann University Knights. The victory moves the Chargers to an impressive 3-1 overall record and the Knights fall to 2-5 overall.

How It Happened: The Chargers opened the game with an impressive 10-0 run starting with back-to-back three-point field goals from senior Adalyn Steiner and junior Jenna Dombach. Shelby Gard ended the first period with a three-point field goal of her own at the buzzer, securing a 15-4 lead after one period of play.

The Knights would turn up the defensive pressure, holding the Chargers to ten second quarter points. Neither team would score after 1:56 in the first half, leading to a 25-16 Charger lead at halftime.

Opening the second half, the Chargers continued to keep the Knights at bay, keeping the lead through the third quarter thanks to the likes of Steiner, Iwais, and Gard. The Knights would get within four points of the Charger lead at the five-minute mark of the third quarter, but the Chargers responded with a run of their own and closed the third period with a 36-31 lead.

Looking to secure the program's first win over Neumann, the Knights wouldn't make it easy, tying the game at 41 with just 5:46 left in the game. Following a Charger timeout, the Chargers ended the game on a 12-2 run as Eshelman knocked in two free throws, and the Chargers won 53-43.

From the Coach: "Tonight was a great bounce back road win for our team. They took on the challenge of competing hard for 40 minutes, making necessary adjustments and trusting our style of play down the stretch. Though we didn't limit Lauren's scoring as much as we would have liked, we made her touches difficult which was a point of emphasis. And I believe it was a difference in the game. This type of win builds confidence and gives us momentum going into a tough conference game Saturday. We can't wait to compete in front of our home crowd."Head Coach Joy Tharrington

By the Numbers: The Chargers were led by sophomore Jade Eshelman with 11 points and 15 rebounds… Alaysha Iwais added 10 points and five rebounds… Adalyn Steiner, Jenna Dombach, and Shelby Gard added nine, eight, and six points respectively… the Chargers shot 31% (19-60) from the field and 78% (11-14) from the free throw line… the Chargers also grabbed 48 rebounds and had 11 assists on the night.

Information to Know: Tonight's win marks the first win for the women's basketball program against Neumann University, moving the matchup record to 1-4 overall.
