Chargers Set New Program Record For Wins, Sweep Wells

How it Happened
The Lancaster Bible College softball team closed out the regular season by defeating Wells College by a score of 21-1 on Saturday, April 30.  
 
The Chargers (16-23 Overall, 12-15 United East) immediately went to work, jumping out to a big lead in the top of the first inning. Alyssa Hamilton led off with a single to right field and Hannah Lieb followed with a single of her own to put runners on the corners. Phoebe Clemens then drew a walk to load the bases. Adalyn Steiner lifted a single into center field, allowing Hamilton to score. Bryanna Hoover double to left field, bringing home two runs to extend the lead to three. Chloe King kept the offense rolling, launching a double off the left center fence to give LBC a 5-0 advantage. Alyssa Paulson then lined a double into center field, scoring King. Later in the inning, Lieb drove a single into left field, plating LBC's eighth run of the inning.
 
LBC continued scoring in the second inning. Hoover led off the inning with a single and then advanced to second on a passed ball. Chloe King lined a double into left field, allowing Hoover to score. Paulson remained hot, driving a single into right field that allowed King to score and give LBC a 9-0 lead. In the third inning, Paulson drove in another run, this time lifting a single into center field.
 
The Chargers tacked on seven more runs in the top of the fourth inning, highlighted by Hoover's first career grand slam. LBC plated three more runs in the top of the fifth inning with Clemens, Paulson, and Sheyenne King each driving in a run. Alyssa Hamilton remained in control in the circle, shutting down Wells' offense to secure the 21-1 victory.

Inside the Numbers
- Bryanna Hoover had a great game at the plate, going 4-5 with a double and a grand slam, finishing the game with six RBIs
- Alyssa Paulson went 5-5 at the plate, hitting three doubles and driving in four RBIs in the process
- Chloe King racked up a pair of doubles, going 3-5 with three RBIs
- Hannah Lieb went 4-5 with a triple, scoring three times and driving in two RBIs
- Sheyenne King posted three hits, driving in two runs in the process
- Phoebe Clemens recorded three singles, driving in a run

In the Circle
- Alyssa Hamilton pitched 5.0 innings, allowing only one run on one hit while picking up a pair of strikeouts

How it Happened
The Chargers (17-23 Overall, 13-15 United East) got off to a slower start in game two, but behind a no-hitter thrown by Chloe King, LBC powered to 12-0 win. With the win, the Chargers set a new program record for wins in a single season.

LBC took the lead in the top of the second inning. Alyssa Paulson singled past the short stop and stole second base to put herself in scoring position. Sheyenne King then singled, allowing Paulson to hustle around the bases and score. The Chargers added another run in the top of the third inning. Hannah Lieb lasered a ball into right field and flew around the bases, ending up with a triple. Phoebe Clemens launched a sacrifice fly, allowing Lieb to score, giving LBC a 2-0 lead.

The Chargers' offense exploded in the top of the fourth inning. Paulson led off with a single, advancing to second on an error. Sheyenne King then blasted a single by the pitcher, allowing Paulson to score. After King stole second, Alyssa Hamilton doubled off the center field fence, allowing her to score. Lieb hammered another single up the middle, bringing home Hamilton. Clemens smacked a double into center field, giving LBC a 6-0 lead. Clemens later scored after Adalyn Steiner reached on an error. Chloe King brought home Steiner with a single past third base. Paulson hit her second single of the inning, driving in Bryanna Hoover in the process. Noelle Martin reached on error which allowed two more runs to score giving LBC a 11-0 lead. Hamilton drove in one more run, crushing her second double of the inning to give the Chargers a 12-0 lead.

In the circle, Chloe King was dominant, throwing the program's first no hitter since 2016. King struck out six batters during her five innings of action, only allowing two base runners in the game.

Inside the Numbers
- Alyssa Paulson remained hot at the plate, going 3-4 with three singles and driving in an RBI
- Alyssa Hamilton hammered a pair of doubles, driving in two RBIs
- Phoebe Clemens went 2-3, driving in two RBI in the process
- Sheyenne King was 2-3 with two singles, plating two runs
- Hannah Lieb went 3-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in a RBI
- Adalyn Steiner and Chloe King each drove in an RBI

Historical Notes
- LBC set a new program record for single season wins, picking up their 17th victory of the season
- Alyssa Hamilton and Phoebe Clemens each tied the single-season hits record, finishing the season with 51 hits each
- Hamilton also set a new program record for doubles in a season, finishing the year with 19 doubles
- Clemens set two program records, slugging seven triples and driving in 39 RBIs

In the Circle
- Chloe King pitched 5.0 innings, throwing LBC's first no hitter since 2016 against Rosemont College.

The Chargers have concluded their season and will now head into the off-season looking to improve upon their success from this past season
