The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team celebrated its seven seniors with a 1-0 win over the Penn College Wildcats on Tuesday night. This was the last regular season game and final United East Conference contest before the Chargers enter postseason play. The Chargers are now 8-8-2 on the year and end 6-2 in conference while the Wildcats fall to 7-6-3 overall and 2-3-1 in conference.
How It Happened: The first half featured some action as both sides were able to place shots on goal to keep the defense on their toes. The Wildcats' goalkeeper, Cole Catherman, made several nice plays to save a few potential Chargers goals, resulting in a scoreless game at halftime.
Looking for their fourth win in conference, the Chargers came out of the half on a mission with senior
Owen Nell placing a hard shot towards the goal, followed by a Chargers corner kick. The corner proved pivotal as sophomore
Andrew Cox placed a high arcing cross into the box, finding senior
Tommy Elder patiently waiting in the back of the box for a header that turned into the game-winning goal.
With thirty minutes left to play, the Chargers kept the pressure with several good offensive plays, but none were successful. The Chargers defense showed up big time, not allowing a single Wildcats shot in the second half, leading to a 1-0 shutout on the night.
By the Numbers: The Chargers had 15 shots to the Wildcats' three shots… the Wildcats had six saves for the game… the Chargers won the corner kick battle 5-1… Elder had the lone goal while Cox had the lone assist.
Up Next: As the regular season ends, the Chargers wait to see what seeding and opponent they will be matched up with on Saturday, October 28. Game time still to be determined.
