The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team traveled to Middletown, Pa. for the second time this year to compete against Penn St. Harrisburg on Monday night to advance to the United East Conference Volt Division Finals. Despite a 2-0 deficit after the first half, the Chargers late rally wasn't enough as the Lions went on to win 3-2. The Chargers end the 2023 campaign 9-9-2 overall and 4-2 in conference play while the Lions improve to 9-4-7 overall and 3-0-3 in conference play.
Â
How It Happened: It was just over one minute into the game when the Chargers found themselves down 1-0. Looking to bounce back from the early goal, it was the Lions again who scored at the 10:55 mark, making it a two-goal lead for the home team. While the start wasn't ideal for the Chargers, the defensive line tightened up, not allowing another goal for the half.
Â
Coming out of halftime facing the end of the season, the Chargers needed an answer, and junior forward
Devyn Kintzer did just that in the 50
th minute as sophomore
Ben Nolt gave him the assist. With the deficit down to one goal, the Lions were quick to not let it stay that way, scoring just fifty seconds later to bring it back to a two-goal lead. Following the offensive spurt, the Chargers managed to place two more shots on goal that were off the mark. But at the 62
nd minute, Kintzer answered the call again to bring the game to 3-2 in favor of the Lions.
Â
The Chargers threw what they could at the Lions with the remaining twenty or so minutes, but were unable to find another opportunity as the Lions went on to secure the 3-2 victory at home.
Â
By the Numbers: The Chargers were outshot 17-6…
Richie Lockard had three saves to the Lions' two saves… the Chargers had three corner kicks while the Lions had six… Kintzer had two goals and Nolt added an assist… Fombu had two goals for the Lions and Cole Isaacs added another.
Â
Information to Know: The Chargers end the 2023 season on a six-game home win streak.
