Lancaster Bible Can’t Overcome Seahawks

The Lancaster Bible College women's basketball team squared off against the number one seed St. Mary's College of Maryland on Saturday afternoon, falling 58-54. The Chargers move to 12-10 overall and an even 7-7 in conference play while the Seahawks improve to 12-10 overall and 12-2 in conference play.
 
How It Happened: The Chargers battled for forty-minutes Saturday afternoon but couldn't quite overcome the Seahawks' offensive prowess. The Seahawks started early, running to a 13-5 lead with just 2:35 left in the first quarter. A three-point field goal from Sydney Heller put the Chargers within six points, but a Seahawk three-pointer extended the lead to 21-12 to end the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Seahawks got hot and responded to every Charger bucket with that of their own. Heading into halftime the Chargers faced a 16-point deficit losing 42-26.
 
Coming out of half, the Chargers didn't let up on the fight, trying to put any sort of run together. Two Charger jumpers from Irene Were and Jenna Dombach brought the deficit to 11 points, 48-37. The Chargers continued to fight in the fourth quarter but could not overcome the Seahawks lead and eventually fell 68-54.
 
By the Numbers: The Chargers shot 32.8 percent (20-61) from the floor and 16.7 percent (3-18) from beyond the arc… the Seahawks shot 36.8 percent (21-57) from the floor and 42 percent (6-14) from the three-point land… Irene Were led the Chargers with 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds… Jenna Dombach added 12 points… Williams had a game high 20 points for the Seahawks.
 
Information to Know: The Chargers are 1-5 overall against the Seahawks… the Chargers' only win came last season when the women beat the Seahawks at home 57-44 on February 12thAdalyn Steiner has eclipsed 600 career points with her eight-point outing tonight… Alaysha Iwais now has 102 assists this season, which is just the sixth time a women's player has recorded 100+ assists in a season in program history.
 
Up Next: The Chargers travel to Penn St. Berks on Tuesday, February 14th for their last United East Conference road contest at 5:00 p.m.
