The Lancaster Bible College men's volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Cairn Highlanders in the Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday night, clinching their first ever CSAC Championship. The Chargers cap off the season ending 21-10 overall and posted a perfect record in conference play.
How It Happened: Junior
Michael Myers began the night on a kill, giving the Chargers an early 1-0 lead. The Highlanders also began early, jumping to a 4-2 lead before the Chargers rattled off five straight points to make it 7-4. The Highlanders kept it close, but the Chargers found timely kills to keep the lead at an arm's distance. The Chargers led 19-16 and finished the first set win on a 6-1 run as freshman
Jake Rotelle hit home the 25
th point.
Looking to carry the momentum into the second set, the Chargers put together several key offensive runs, including a 6-0 run on back-to-back-to-back kills from Rotelle and
Elijah Herb. The Chargers led 13-6, then Cairn responded with their own point, but Rotelle had a kill and service ace to make it 15-7. Cairn rattled off three points to bring it within five, but the Chargers put together a 7-0 run to create a 12-point advantage. The Chargers won the second set 25-14.
One set away from their first ever CSAC Championship, the Chargers didn't disappoint, running to an early 11-4 lead and electrifying the crowd. In that stretch Herb had three kills, Rotelle had two kills, and
Hunter Davis had an ace and a kill. The Chargers again put together an 8-3 run as several Chargers contributed to the offensive attack. Nearing the end, the Chargers completed the 3-0 sweep on back-to-back kills from Rotelle and
Michael Myers, sending the crowd into a frenzy and officially becoming the 2023 CSAC Champions.
