The Lancaster Bible College Men's Soccer team returned home from their trip to Western Pennsylvania to host Alvernia on Wednesday night, but fell 3-2 as the Golden Wolves scored with just under six minutes left in full time. The Chargers move to 0-2-1 on the season while the Golden Wolves improve to 2-1 overall.
How It Happened: It was the Chargers who found the net first as sophomore
Andrew Cox did what he does best, putting the ball into the net on an assist from senior Marcos Nuñes and putting the Chargers on top by one. The two teams continued to battle for the ball, looking for a breakthrough in the defense, but neither could find a gap until the Golden Wolves found a break in the 23
rd minute as Ryan Cogill scored.
A few fouls and offensive attacks later, the Chargers looked as if something was going to happen. Senior
Kyle Hughes shot a free kick into the box that looked good, but the Wolves' goalkeeper made a tough save, just managing to tip it over the net. However, Hughes got a second chance just minutes later, this time placing a beautiful ball into the upper right hand corner of the net just out of reach of the goalkeeper, giving the Chargers a 2-1 advantage with just seven minutes left in the half.
Coming out of halftime, both teams continued to battle for every loose ball, struggling to keep possession for a significant amount of time. The Golden Wolves got the opportunity they were looking for in the 70
th minute of the game as Justin Fetrow made a run on the right side. Tied at 2-2 with just twenty minutes of play left, the intensity increased on both sides as every offensive chance could be the decider. It was the Golden Wolves who managed to not only breakup several great offensive threats from the Chargers, but score a goal for themselves as Fetrow got his second of the night with just under six minutes left to play in the game. Shifting all momentum to Alvernia, the Chargers weren't able to convert and the Wolves walked away with a tightly contested 3-2 win on the road.
